CAMP OK ANT, 111.. Jan. 22. The unfairness of the public in assuming that all soldiers of development battalions are venereals has caused cre.it indignation amonR Camp Grant officers. MaJ. RAILROAD EVANGELIST COMES TO SOUTH BEND

Iter. (. 11. Crane, formerlv associated with Jim Ihirwick, famous railroad evangelist, will preach gospel sermons every nicht this week in the United Urethren church, 608 S. St. Joseph st. He has traveled extensively over Canada and the northern part of America, preaching the gospel anfl conducting; shop meetings under the direction of the Y. M. C. A. He was born in England where he was actively encased in religious work until six years ago, when he came to America. Mrs. Karl Naftzgar from Winona Lake will conduct the music. She has had varied experience in directing mufde, having assisted her husband for nine months at Camp Travis, San Antonio, Tex. Her husband is now in France and she is devoting; her time to religious work.

Notre Dame News

George O'Connell, the famous Irish tenor, will appear with a song recital on Jan. -5 in Washington hall at the University of Notre Dame. The appearance of Mr. O'Connell will mark the opening of the winter season of concerts, lectures and motion pictures. at the University of Notre Dame will he allowed to compete for the Dockweiler medal, the highest reward offered each year to the student writing the best thesis on some philosophical subject. In past years only seniors were allowed to compete, hut this year to encourage the study of philosophical theme, an invitation was extended to the juniors. Last year the Dockweiler medal was awarded to Leigh Hubboll, a member of th letters course who entered St. Joseph's novitiate after graduation.

For the second time in a number of years the University of Notre Dame debating tMm will not appear In a debate with del ating teams of other schools. Kfforts on the part of the liev. William A. Holger, dean of the economics department and director of the delating teams at the university, did not bring any results. Dean Holger has written to a number of s-chools expressing willingness to meet in a debate, but received replies that the war has claimed the services of the debaters. Last scholastic year was scheduled to meet the University of Cincinnnti on the prohibition question, but the debate was cancelled at the eleventh hour by the Cincinmti institution. Notre Dame's last victory' in debates came In the spring of 1916 when the 'varsity debaters were awarded the derision over St. Viator's college and Drake university.

BUENOS AIRES STRIKE LEAVES HARBOR SILENT

HL'KN'OS A IRKS. Jan. 22. N ineteen steamships and 13 sailing vessels, aggregating 00,000 tons, are anchor-id in the harbor awaiting orders on account of the strike of harbor workers here. They fiy tho British. Urench and ItaUan fags. Several steamers have left Buenos Aires in the last few days for Montevideo to unload carrots intended for Buenos Aires. The former busy port here is deserted, and miles and miles of silent quay?, flanked by huge empty elevators, are to be seen. The streets surrounding tho docks, which are usually jammed with dra are empty. Almost the only signs of life are small gToups of idle men smoking pipes and spinning yarns in the shade of the warehouses.
