BUSTER BROWN WEEK AT DOUGLAS STORE

IS

Nothing1 succeeds like succe?

an old saying that might aptly be applied to the Douglas shoe store which, since its establishment in Mishawaka, has succeeded beyond the most sanguine expectations of its manager, lister Harwich. This was the first exclusive shoe store to be opened in the city, and the business accorded it since its opening here has fully warranted the enterprise. Mr. Hurwieh has designated this week as "IJuster Iirown week," and starting Monday there will be displayed a fine line of the national advertised boys' and girls' shoes, which art the highest grade made. A tine window display of these shoes attracted crowds around the Douglas store last night.

Tlie civics department of the Woman's club intends waiting on Mayor Gaylor for the purpose of having some action taken towards removing the accumulation of ice and snow from the sidewalks of the city, which were never in a more dangerous condition than at present. It is believed that somewhere in the archives of the city hall there is a.i historic document in the nature of an ordinance requiring householders to keep their walks free from ice and snow. This is merely supposition, however, as no one has ever seen it, nor has it ever been enforced in the memory of the proverbial oldest inhabitant. The members of the civics department will ask the mayor to unearth this document if it exists, and will insist, that action be taken in time to prevent actions for damages against the city.

Capt. A. C. Haslanger. Lieut. T. Kinnet and Ueut. C. II. Moran, of Company K, have resigned their membership in the local home guards. With them, 41 men of the same company have asked to be discharged, having expressed themselves as being s-atistied they have served their time faithfully, aAd do not care to continue their membership. Amonp: these men, it is said, there are several who liave been members since the movement was started, their services being offered to maintain order and to promote the interests of all war activities. These objects having been attained, they t-tate they can see no reason for maintaining an armed ruard for the same purpose. It is pointed out that there may be a reorganization some time in the future, but such an organization will be for physical exercise and the promotion of good fellowship. Military training, it is further stated, will be one of the features, but they will not assume any military standing. K company was popular in its day, all its members being loyal homo guardsmen.

Monday Alice Brady will be seen in "Woman and Wife," adapted from '"Jane Fyre," the immortal novel by Charlotte Uronte. It is said Miss Brady rises to great heights in her delineation of the unfortunate heroine. Tuesday Mabel Normand will be seen in "Dodging a Million," while on New Year's day, matinee and night, William S. Hart will be shown in "The Lone Avenger." This program of attractions is a most pleasing one.
