Don't Torture Your Child!
TO MOTHERS! Sec your little one's terror at the very thought of a dose of castor oil, mineral oil, calomel or pills. Ugh! Cascarcts "work" better, safer, surer on the tender little liver, stomach and bowels, besides Cascarcts taste like candy. Even bilious, constipated, sick kiddies coax for this harmless candy cathartic.
) IntTiintinnal Npwi Strvhe: ' WASHINGTON. Nov. 2S. Peace le onomy whi' h will lead to a grad
ual rather than a precipitate reduction of war workers in various government lepartm nt and bureaus
, probably will be the recommendation
'of the house appropriations commit'te to oc.mvss when that body hei -;ins its short session on Dee. ', a 'ir.emb-r of the committee stated to''lay. I hile n p. Shei ley of Kentucky, ! chairman of the committee, shares che opihion with others of its mem-
bis, that the expenditures of the k'overnmtnt should be reduced as rapidly and as extensively as is found practicable, there is no disposition on his part to recommend i
; policy of retrenchment that mUht ! result in thousands of federal work--rs suddenly being thrown out ot
employment. It is laported that many war workers haw- already received a, str(n intimation from certain bu-
jieau lieads that their services will jsoon be no longer rapuiretl, but cerjtain onmessional leaders are sail to take the view that to abruptly jdis.niss such workers, especially
t h os who came to Washington from
distant points, would b. to inihet uiineees'sary hardships upon them. I'aor iiadual Cut. At tile same time a radurl and steady cut in the civil lists is favored, especially those involved in the leuislative, executive and Judicial a ppropriation bill for the hscal year beinninp July 1, 1911, hearings on which the house appropriations committee resumed today and will continue not only luring all of net wcflk but well into the auproachin short session. A number of the committee, pointed out that government departments wer- operating under existing appropriations and would continue to do so until the expiration of the present fiscal year on June 30, 101 : . Unless conuress decides to cut into some of these appropriations, money would be available for the operation of departments and bureaus until that time. Chairman Sherley has received assurances from department and buleau heads, with whom he has conferred since his return to Washir.toh that they propose voluntarily to ctiect savings wherever possible and although the "unscrambling" of civilian war work they regard xis essential to peace economies to whicil the tax payers of the country are entitled, they vksire to avoid the dangers which .sudden disorganization would invite.

Each 10 cent box of Cascarcts, the pleasant candy cathartic, contains viircctions and dosage fcr children aed one year old and upwards. When the little one's tongue turns white, breath feverish, stomach sour, there is nothing better to "work" the nasty bile, souring food and constipation poison from the child's system. Give Cascarcts, then never worry.

IiANSlNd MA V CONTKIt with ri:.ci: nomi.m:i:. WASHINGTON, Nov. 2:. Delay in announcement of the make-up of the United States delegation to the peace conference was said here today to be related to the absence from Washington of Sec'y of State l.i.nsin. The latter has pone presumably to his home in Watertown. While absent, however, he is expected to hav - a talk with one of the men who will be named 'on the commission, provided he is willing to accept. Meanwhile speculation regard in e; the identity of the commissioners continued without any intimation fron official sources as to actually who will compose it. The list today contained the names of the president, Col. House, Sec'y Lansin.tr, another cabinet officer possibly, although the resignation of Sec'y of the Treasury McAdoo mitigated against the chances of such a .selection, and FJihu Root. The advocates of Mr. Kots nomination continued to insist that his brilliant lepal mind will be badly needed when the deliberations of the commission are hemm. However, the opposition to his appointment is increajin within tho democratic party and no one was prepared to say what effect this opposition will have oi the president. It was not expected that -any announcement dealin-; with the makeup of the commission and the president's trip across would be forthcoming before the first of the week. Sec'y Irnsing will not be back until then, while Sec'y to the President Tumulty has been detained in Jersey City through the death of his father.
