All restrictions on the shipment of cotton from the United States except to enemy countries and to the northern European neutrals have been removed, Sen. Hoke Smith of Geor&ia said Wednesday, after a conference with the officials of the war trado board. Cotton Is expected to flow more freely to countries contiguous to Germany when that nation has complied with oil the terms of the armistice, the senator Bald. Cotton in increased quantities already is moving to the allied countries. Because of the fact that India's cotton crop this year waa sufficient only for that country's need, Sen. Smith said, Japan has been very anxious to get cotton from the United States. Japan's needs are estimated at 1,000,000 bales. StockB of cotton in the eouth now are said to exceed 500.000 bales and it was because of this fact that southern senators and representatives at a recent conference decided to ask the war trade board and other government apencles to modify the restrictions on exports. The matter was also brought to the attention of the president. Senators say that 'countries, desiring to import American cotton have Indicated a readiness to" supply the tonnage necessary for its movement overseas and now that restrictions as to shipments to most countries have been removed, they expect the movement to Increase rapidly. BLUFFTON ARRANGES TEMPORARY HOSPITAL News-TImen Special Service. BLUFFTOX, Ind., Nov. 21. Bluffton has completed arrangements for opening temporary hospital on short notice whenever It should be needed in that part of the state. The hospital can be ready for use within an hour, it is said. The Wells county health and Red Cross officials worked out the plans. The arrangements followed the request cf the commander of a troop train for permission to leave 18 sick eoldiers in Bluffton, and It was found there would be no accommodations for the men. FARM JOURNALISTS MEET WITH HOUSTON WASHINGTON, Nov. 21. Farm problems especially as they relate to the department of agriculture's program for next year, were discussed by Sec'y Houston today at a conference with the editors of 30 agricultural Journals from various sections of the country. Ways by which the agricultural pres couli bring the program to the attention of farmers were considered. . Sec'y Houston will meet the editors arain tomorrow to receive suggestions from them.
