AS RESIGNED

Bert DeVault Will Go to Los Angeles After Five Years' Residence Here.

Halloween next Thursday night will not be observed in Mishawnvto the same extent as on previous occasions in the city. During recent years the celebration has been on a somewhat large and popular iXale, made possible by a few of the more eneruetic citizens who raised sufficient money to enable the youn folks and many of the older to participaf4 in the enjoyment. Thse occasions were unusual In cities throughout the state, and Mishawak.a was given credit for doing something worth while. Owing to the prevalence of influenza and other causes due to the war, it will be impossible to do anything big Thursday night, but it lias been suggested that one of the bands might tie induced to offer its services for the occasion, while community

singing minht also be featured. The merchants, no doubt, would furnish j a little red tire and other harmless j

amusements, in consideration of which the children would, of course,

i refrain from marking up the store

windows. They have done this as ;i quid pro quo in the past, and their notion has been much appreciated by the merchants of the city. It is promised when the boys come back from over there, there will be such a celebration in Mishawaka as will put to shame any demonstration that

IUrt DeVault. Ir. PeVault ha? held hi present position for tiv- vrars, being consider.ibly longer than any previous manager of the hotel ever did. During his residence in Mishawaka he has become quite an important factor in tlie life of the community, and has done much toward popularizing th hotel among traveling m n as well as among the people of the city and county. He has identified himself with all patriotic work, while anything that tended for the welfare of Mishawaka always found in him a warm- supporter.
