The rumor that the field ctrtillery brigade firing center planned for this ranee may be 1 emov ed else w here is entirely unfounded. The war department i going ahead with it plans for the erection of the 015 cantonment for six or eight brigades of artillery to be built near Stithton. some nine or 1" mile from here. It is believed that the dispatches were intended to act as a lever in bringing pressure to bear on recalcitrant landowners, who were holding out for too big a sum. Now that the time for the departure of the 153th field artillery brigade is belieed near, the commanding officer are being more liberal with furloughs. The following hae been on pass to South Bend in the wee: Sergt. Victor Rozewu z. Cpl. Floyd G. Murphy. Cpl. Howard Fllery. Chief Mechanic John V. Rupp. Pvt. Alex Rybicki. pvt. John Nowicki, M. C. DEMOCRATS ÄD0PT PLATFORM Adhernts of Hearst For Governor Say Chances Improve Hourly. SARATOGA SPRINGS, X. Y.. July -V,. The unofficial democratic tat4 convention adopted its platform of partiy principles Tuesday night and listened to a patriotic address by Rep. George R. Lonn of Schenectady, an aspirant for gubernatorial honors, but postponed until Wednesday any formal action regarding iu candidates for fcuernor and other state ofheers. Surface indication. showed an apparent increase of strength for the gubernatorial boom of Alfred E. niith. president of the New York board of aldermen. Hearst -Men ActiAr. Adherents of William Rai dolph Hearst were active and claimed that the publisher's chances of success in the primaries were increasing hourly. Tiny did not. however, predict that Mr. Hearst would be the convention choice. On the other hand, opponents of the Hearst movement circulated handbills under the caption, "The Resolution That Bars Hearst. " and containing the text of a resolution unanimously adopted at tlie convention's initial session. Endorbement of the war policies -of Pres't Wilson, an arraignment of the republican management of state affairs under the administration of Gov. Whitman, a demand that United slates senators from New Tork support the federal suffrage amendment, and a declaration of 1 principles as to state issues upon which the fall campaign will be waged, were dominant notes, cf the platform presented to the democratic state convention tonight by the resolutions tommittcc. The state issues enumerate.! included a short "home rule for municipalities" plank and a declaration for a state-wide referendum on the federal prohibition question. The convention at its opening- teasion Tuesday did little except organize, listen to a "keynote" speech by the temporary chairman, former Supreme Court Justice K. Augustus Kellogg of Glens Falls, and adopt a vigorous resolution pledging "wholehearted support ar.d confidence in Pre't Wilson's struggle to make the world safe for democracy, and repudiating every truckler with our country's enemies who strive to extenuate or excuse Germany's crimes and atrocities, and "who seeks or has sought to sow dissension among our allies or who now seeks to capitalize by election to public off.ee the litent treason, whose total annihilation is the most prcsng need of the hour."
