OPFER VENE DISEASE MEAS 4 Ordinance Providing for Investigation and Quarantine Introduced in Council. Pie. iio.nar: steps tovar-i -tar.ipng out vtneral disease in South I lend w ere taken Monday night when an ordinance providing" for the investigation of suspected casts of this di'-case and comp-jlsory treat-lat-iit for persons a!Vlictcd with it w as :ntrob- :.! in th- eiiy council. The measure provides that the secretary of the city board of health shall have power to investigate any suspected ease of veneral disease, and that upon linding that such disease exists, the persons so afflicted may be placed under suitable quarantine. Would Treat Patients. The ordinance further provides that such afflicttd persons shall be given treatment, and shall be made to sign report cards, pledging: that the patient will continue treatment until he is entirely cured. The secretary of the eity health board fhall act under the rules laid down In such cases by the state board of health. A penalty of from $10 to $.-0, to which may be added a jail sentence. The ordinance, was referred to the committee of the whole for investigation. It will probably be reported on at the meeting of the ouncil two weeks; hence. Members of the city council and the city clerk and his deputy, are to wear badges to show that they arc eity officials. What is known as the j-unburst" ordinance, providing; for these badges wai passed by the council. The ordinance originally provided that tho controller should have a badge, but the committee of the whole substituted the city clerk and his deputy for the controller, liyers Wanted IJanncrs. Councilman C. A. Peers, in speaking against the ordinance, declared that he had auain been misquoted. He said that he had never seen any Use of a badge, but that he favored a banner. lie said he wanted something that the eouneilnien could earry in a parade, something', he said, that would let people know what the councilmen really arc. Howf-V'iT. the ordinance passed. and after the nature of the measure and its purpose were explained to Mr. Dyers, he voted for it. declaring that he now saw some real purpose in wearing- the badge. "We must have something to show people that we are what we claim we are." he said. Councilman William Goebc-1 wanted to know what kind of Ladges the councilmen were going: to get. He said that inasmuch as he was one of those who would have to w t ax a badge, he- wanted to know something of its natuie. City Cl-Tk Bilinski explained that the Ladges were to be modest affairs of rolled gold with the word -'councilman" inscribed in the center. Whether they are to be round, oblong or pointed will not be decided, it was pointed out. until after a catalog is duly consulted. It is said that they will cost about $j eaci (CiL making one dozen ot them Permit to Move Home. If an ordinance presented Monday night becomes a law any person in the city before he is allowed to move from one house to another must obtain a permit from the city building department. Th? ordinance refers to furniture, and household goods. There is to be no charge tor the permit, but there is a heavy penalty provided in the ordinance for its violation. The exact purpose of the measure did not seem to be ouite clear to the councilmen, so it was referred to the committee of the whole, where one member declared after the meeting that it would remain as lar as he was concerned. Nilar. IncD'as for Linemen. Councilman Ldward Luther presented a measure increasing the salary of city linemen from to) a month to . 1 1 0 a month. The ordinance was leferred to the conimstt Z- . ,f the w hole.
