The tirst independent haseball game of the season to be played in this city will be staged Sunday afternoon at the Singer park when the Singer team will meet the fast LaI orte nine. A sood many local fans have been hunserinj; for a good Sunday ball game and will welcor.;e the opportunity to again sun themselves on the bleachers. The Singer aggregation is made up of the talent that made such a great record in the Factory league for the past three years, and though this will be their tirst appearance the men are, with one or two exceptions, in tirst class condition. Moore will undoubtedly do the hurling and is in shape to give any opposing team a good argument. Baker will be on the receiving end. completing as clever a battery as has ever been seen in local semipri circles. The remainder of the line-up has not been settled upon definitely but is expected to be about the f.ame as the old Factory league days saw. The Laporte crew is an unknown quantity hut is touted as being a real ball club. "Babe" AdanV, who was at one time in the factory league and later with Kd. Smith in the Central league for a trial, is booked to be on the mound for them. Weaver, who is said to have a reputation in the southern part of the state, will do the backstoppine. The rest of the line-up is not known, but a good battle is expected when the two nines hook up.

The jury was accepted Friday afternoon and immediately the state began its introduction of evidence. Mrs. Ktta Hartley, widow of the murdered man. wa. one of the tirst witnesses. She told of the light that occurred in the house and of hearing three shots fired. She will be cross-examined tomorrow. The case is attracting little attention.
