The ordinance providing for the paikin t vehicles in the down town district, after some discussion, was tabled, owing to the fact that Councilman Ciorbe, the author of the ordinance, was not present it the meeting, and that he had sent word that he had several ehang he wished to make in the proposal oröi nance. Atty. George Sands, representing the business men of the city, it a short talk to the council stated that the business men thought the ordinance would be a good one if amended. The- ordinance providing for an appropriation of tl.L'no for a clerk in the controller's office was tabled and indefinitely postponed. Grot, or Defend- Car Co. Gen. .M;r. Grover of the Northern Indiana Hallway eorapany, vh i had been citd to appear before the committee to explain the reasons for the poor car service, appeared and gave a long talk ocplaining '.v. detail the cause for th? poor service rendered the public In the last few months. Mr. Grover said: "I don't know what the council means by poor car service. We have all worried and worked to maintain service. Thin was the worst winter .1 have ev ?r known, the storms continued since early in January. disabling our cbipment. which we wore unable to replace, owing to the inability to obtain supplies." He also said thTit South P.end was not the only city that had been made to suffer as a result of poor service. Ursides the unusual climatic conditions experienced in thi.- city during the last few months, Mr. Grover also blamed the jitney busses (or the majority of the irregular car service. He said that the snow plows would no more than get the tracks cleared for the cars to run on and the jitneys would throw the snow hack on the tracks, delaying the cars and stalling them altogether in some instances. .clcK-ate. DIES IN AUTOMOBILE ON WAY TO HER HOME Kef. .re Mi-- l'va Morris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. .1. Morris, luu: I". Marietta t.. could be rushed to her home from the Auditorium theater Tuesday night. she died from heart failure. The young woman who vva subject to a wra heart from her infancy had accompanied her brother, I'.ryan J. Morris to the theater. It is thought that the walk up the stairs to the theater auditorium affected her heart. She suffered a sinking spell and was carried out on the lite scape of the theater and a physician was summoned. Her brother was told to get her to their automobile and rush to the home, but Mi.-s Morris died before they reached their destination. She was born at Dowagiae. Mich.. April 4. IS'.il, and accompanied her parents to this city seven years ago. She is survived bv her pa rents and thtce brothers. Claude W. Morris, Toledo. O.. Harry A. of Kindmondy, 111., and r.ryan J.. who re-ides with his parents. Funeral .ervices will be held at the home Thursday night at 7 :;:. and the body will be taken to Powagiac Friday morning for burial.
