Athletes Know Value of Man Who Made Great Teams.

2SZ

News of the resifmation of Athletic Director Jes.se C. Harper to take effect with the closing of the present emester was received with mixed feelings by the student hody .Sunday morning. Plach voiced, the feeling that Notre Dame will have lost a most valuable man; those who have worked under Harper ana know him intimately see in his move more of that perspective which has made him such a successful director for the pa-st Ave jears. They are glad that he 5s stepping into something that will with ordinary good fortune brins him larger returns than does his present employment. Harper has reached the pinnacle of his profession at an age where most men have a lot to look forward to. There is not a school in the country, according to his own admission, to which ILarper mlsht aspire. In other years Harper has had many offers from other institutions to head their athletic departments, but he has scarcely ever momentarily considered them. He has been most satisfied while in charge of the gold and blue activities, but simply reached the decision that he ought to be about a bigger work. The athletes at Notre Dame dislike to see their mentor go. They who have worked under him appreciate his i:reat worth. He has been no coddler, rather has ho been a strict disciplinarian of the men under him, but his methods may be judged by his results. Tie is uni

versally liked, not only among the i athletes, but by the student bony i as well. His leaving will mean u'

personal h ss to everyone who kne7 him.
