"It is peace wherein questions of a territorial nature sink into relative insignificance. A peace secured by international stipulations and courts of arbitration, guaranteed by limitations of armament, a peace which grants air and life to every people, a peace which puts an end to the madness of the race to be most heavily armed, a peace which reconciles discordant peoples and brings the thoughts of humanity to a victorious accomplishment, a peace which abolishes the concept of hegemony and the preeminence of a single people and lifts the great principles of freedom of 1789 out of the sphere of states rights up into the sphere of the rights of the people. That is the peace which must proceed out of the great grapple of the nations." From "Peace, a New Humbug," by a German. Kind of Peace do

the German PEOPLE. Want? fhe world knows the peace that the kaiser wants, the peace that the junkers, the pan-Germans, the profiteers, in a word the "war party" are goading the German people to fight for. a peace of annexations, a peace of aggrandizement, a peace of preparation for the next gTeat drive in the Hohenzollern campaign for dominion of the world. But what of the German people? What do they want what are they coming to long for? It is a significant question. The kaiser's recent move for a peace "advantageous to Germany" was but a skilful move on the chess board of internal politics. How far has its inevitable rejection by the allies cemented German factiot.s, quelled the mutterings of dissention and revolt? Only developments will reveal that. In the meantime how significant, therefore, is a voice from the German people, from the great mass of common people! Such a voice is made articulate in an interesting article in Sunday's News-Times. It is written by a German, of republican tendencies, who has taken refuge in Switzerland from the autocracy of the kaiser. The article has been widely circulated in Germany. A copy reached this country and was furnished The News-Times by the committee on public information, the government's official press bureau. It is authoritative ai well as interesting. You are vitally interested in what is going on in Germany. You should not miss reading "Peace, A New Humbug'' in Sunday's News-Times.
