Ti .To.-" Sullivan and "Little Phoebe" Hosier, and the 1;U lights and lesser lights of "Doc"' Carson's coterie of saloon rneetinK promoters congregated in "Joe's place" in Little Italy last night, where they drank to Carson's success on the republican ticket this fall. "Republican I Ieadiuartf rs for the Fourth Ward," were words sprinkled on a large banner spread across the late Joe Verelii's saloon which greeted the men who congregated to hear "Doc's" new supporters spout the virtues of the republican candidate for mayor of South Bend. According to a report emanating from Little Italy, the meeting was to have b?en called off following the initial drivo for Carson in Billy Myers' saloon, at Hydraulic and Lasalle avs.. last week. There, too, Joe Sullivan, ex-saloonkeeper and friend of the gambling element of South Rend, reigned supreme. Burn Iltl Tire, Too. But last night, from all reports. Big Joe actually burned the red light for Carson, and an audience of Italian and American-born citizens
greeted his rftorts in the fourth ward with huzzah and native songs. It seem that Sullivan arranged for the meeting last night with Mrs. Verelli's bartender. When Mr. Verell; discovered how Carson's lieutenants were planning for a wild jamboree in her booze emporium she put the lid on the whole affair. What 'induced her to consent to change her mind is a conjecture or is it? Anyway, the meeting was held the second of a series planned by Carson's supporters. Billy Myers' 12 extra glasses were on hand, too. They were commandeered by Hosier, well known in South Bends gambling fraternity, last wefk before the meeting at the Myers' saloon had broken up. How far "Ioc" Carson. "Col." Joe .Sullivan, Hosier and the lesser light are going to promote the progressive saloon parties on the east side has not been made known to east side republicans. Iut the-- do know
that. In the words of Sullivan: j "Beyond Billy Myers' place lie? i Little Italy," and. there is. I "The Republican Headquarters for ; the Fourth Ward." )

WinMvSlAY. OCT. 3. 19 IT. If any conflicting forces are at work toJay, according to astrologers. 'While Venus, Jupiter and Mer
cury are in benellc aspect .Saturn, Mars arW Uranus are adverse. It is a day when lovers will be optimistic but ehinseable and the sway is not a fortunate one for weddings. The lon predicted mania for romance, which will affect even the middle-aired and the old, will manifest itself in the demand for books and plays that deal with sentimental themes. This tendency toward romance will lead to scandals in social life, to libel suits and divorces, the .seers declare. The position of Uranus today is not Kood for aviators and they should be especially cautious while the configuration prevails. There is a sway beneficial to modistes, milliners, tailors and all who make clothing. Hotels come under a hsii indicating heavy losses that will be overcome by changes in the social customs or domestic life of the American people, but there may be a period of apparent disaster in certain cities. Uusiness men are warned to be exceedingly careful in the conseration of capital and strict attention to efficiency, as troubles in certain lines of trade are forecast. There is a sign read as prophetic of new activities for the Catholic church, which will gain for it national gratitude. California and other P.iciiic coast states are again warned of danger from the sei. A famous seer declares that in the United States internal plots
have been successfully completed
and are now awaiting a sisnal for consumption.

Like Looking Through
An Old School Book
Hearing a song that we heard as a child carries us back tor years and for a few happy minutes we tingle with the sensation of being here and back there too. Then too, there are the comparatively new songs that are already hallowed with the affection we feel for the old ones. Such a song is My Little Grey Home in the West Columbia Record JjjfS, The tenor voice of Charles Harrison renders it with that tenderness which comes only when the singer loves the melody and feels the word-;. "Darlin'," another son by Hanison is on the reverse side. Von
