Strikes Deadly Blow at Both Bugs and Diseases That Prevent Good Crops.

The principal Insect enemies of the grape are the grape berry moth, the grape rootworm, the rose chafer, the grape leaf folder and the eightspotted forester, all of which are eating Insect; and the grape leafhopper and the brown grape aphis, sucking Insects. The principal diseases which attack grapes are hlark rot. downy mildew, powdery mildew and anthracnose. The u?e of combination Fpray folutior, containing chemicals which act as inpectld.es or fungicides is advocated by the peelalists. The following spray schedule la recommended: Spray Schedule, First Application: About a week before the blossoms open or when the shoots are 12 to IS Inches long, spray with Hordeaux mixture. 4-?,-50, for fungus dl.ea.es, adding two to three pounds of arsenic of lead pa.te, or one-half that quantity of the powdered form, for flea-beetle, rose chafer, etc. Second Application: Just after the blossoms fall, spray with the same materials as in the first application for the same fungus dis-Ba-ses and insects and for the grape berry moth, grape leaf folder and i lults of grape rootworm. Third Application: About two weeks later use Bordeux mixture, 4-3-50. arsenate or lead paste two :o three pounds. 40 percent nicotine mlphate one part to 1,500 parts uf the spray mixture, for fungus dissases. berry moth, light spotted forsMer, grape leaf folder, brown grape iphis. grape rootworm and grape Ifaf hopper. To destroy the leaf iiopper, direct the spray against the lower surface of the leaves. To rontrol the berry moth, thoroughly roat the grape bunches with the ipray. Fourth Application: About 10 Jays later, or when the fruit is nearry grown, if black rot or mildew are rtill appearing, spray with neutral ?."Pper acetate or verdigris at the rate of one pound to 60 gallons jf nater.
