NIGHT WATCHMAN IS FOUND DEAD

Clement Studebaker Employe Believed to Have Accident ally Shot Himself. Lying in a pool of his own blood, after having hied to death as a result of a bullet wound supposed to have 1-een accilentall self-intlicted. Fred Schultz. tears old, 127 X. Lafayette st., night watchman at the Ciemcnt Studebaker estate on IZ. Jefferson blvd., was found in his room hy Ceaser IWgonzcU, caretaker of the estate. about 10:4j o'clock Friday night. From the nature of the wound, which was in the lower abdomen, and from the evidence at hand, Coroner T. J. Swantz was inclinetl to believe, after a. preliminary inestigation last night, that the case was one of accidental shooting. Pergonzoli. who had heen away from tlie Studebaker residence since the late afternoon, returned ahout 10:4.1 o'clock and. after d-iving into the garage which adjoins the room in which Schultz made his headquarters, discovered the man lying tin the lloor dead. He immediately rushed back to the city in the machine to notify the poli e. The patrol force and lticer Stull hurried to the scene anil Coronor Swantz was called. Played With Hrolvor. Schultz, according to Rergonzuli. was constantly in the hahit of playing with the revolver .which he carried with him on his rounds, and it is believed that the man was working with the gun when it was discharged, the bullet striking him in the lower abdomen. The bullet evidently struck a blood vessel in its course toward the hip ami the man bled to death. The entire floor of the room was covered with blood. There was evidence that the man had tried to use the telephone as the receiver of the phone in the room was blood-stained. The man. it appeared, dropped in a faint at the foot of the phone. Xo signs of Struggle. There were no indications of a struggle in the room or signs of possible violence. From the nature of the wound it was hardly believed that it was suicide. The supposed accident is believed to have occurred between i and 7 o'clock in the evenin-; as the last time the watchman had punched the (.lock was at j o'cloc k. The only relative that Schultz is known to have in this vicinity is a sister, a Mrs. F. C. Kailies, R. F. I). No. ;. Xiles, Mich. A letter addressed to Mrs. Rallies was found in Schultz's pocket. The body was removed to Russell's undertaking establishment. CLEARING HOUSE MEN ELECT NEW OFFICERS The Clearing House association held its election of otlicers at a meeting Friday afternoon.
