SPEAKS 01 SCI SI D Miss E. P. Crandall Says Visiting Nurse Association Should Supervise. "Public Health Nursing" wa.s the subject of an address by Miss KlU Phillips Crandall. chairman of tLe public health nursing, at the annual meeting of the Visiting Nurses' association Friday afternoon at the home of .Mrs. Frank E. Hering. 9K K. Jefferson blvd. Miss Crandall devoted a greater part of her time to discussing the question of school nursing in this city. "Your school problem is not hopeless," she aid. but in a small city it is i nly when under the supervision of the Visiting Nurses' association that school nursing can be made of benetit tn the community. .Since the Ilrst of the year the school board has assumed charge of school nursing and it is the determination of the association to continue the supervision as in past years. Miss Crandall explained the duties and plan of work of the associations in larger cities and cited some ol their most interesting cases. She said where a few years a?o backward children were placed in hennes they are now taken by the nurse, treated and cured. "They are no more mental defective than you or I," was her assertion. IleiHrtrt of Year Made. The reports of the year's work of the association preceded Miss Crandall's talk, and included the treasurer, printing, supply, publishing, and the various committee reports. Mrs. O. C Pastian, Miss Mary May White, Mrs. C. X. Chubb. Mrs. Warde I.. Mack and Mrs. A. M. Russell were elected as trustees to serve a term of three years. The secretary's report, submitted by Miss Mary May White, showed there were .'523 instructive visits and 2,701 nursing calls made during the yea;; there were 2 46 diphtheria patients examined before their release; visiting nurses calls are those made to the needy sick in their own homes, such as the daily care of three little children stricken at one time with typhoid fever; a regular dressing for a woman dying with lockjaw; the care of the mother and new baby and countless others, too many to enumerate. No charge is made for these patients, but among them the custom is growing to make such remuneration is is possible, even though it be only the amount of the nurse's car fare. The afternoon closed with tea. Mrs. George II. Mayr presided. The table was most attractive with a bowl of spring llowers and silver shaded candle sticks. I-lntertalned at Dinner. A 6 o'clock dinner was served in the Wedgewood room at the Oliver for the members of the board of trustees and Miss Crandall, Miss Margaret Parker and Miss Martine Cutler as guests. Covers wero placed for II. Spring flowers vero used .igain in table appointment, a large bowl centering the table. During the meal a round-table discussion took place. Miss Crandall anpwering various questions and explaining the specific phases of the work. She will leave Sunday for the east, where she will deliver several talks before various organizations.
