DRY DEMOGRATS START CAMPAIGN Rev. John M. Alexander Declares Prohibition Will Not Split Party. In an effort to direct the attention of the democratic party to the growing importance of the prohibition question. 40 members of the party, under the leadership of Dan I'yle, lately appointed chairman of the 13th district at the convention of dry democrats', held in Indianapolis, assembled at a bancuol at the Nicholson Inn vriday li'fcht to talk over the matter of organization. A committee of 10 was appointed upon the suggestion of . 1". Windie and unanimously approved by the meeting, whose purpose it shall ! to consider the matter of organ izing the city an 1 the county for the propaganda of the prohibition idea, j The committee Is compose. l oi me following Pan Pyle. fim Jen. in a F.very speech was short. to the point and all showed u conviction on the part of the speakers that prohibition will in the next year assume a position of primary importance in the political field of the state. "Prohibition has become an economic question rather than a moral one." declared Rev. Alexander, who showed the change in the attitude of the thinking public toward the liquor question. He stated that it is acknowledged l.y present-day business men that the superior employe is the on" who can weed out of Iiis rystem the tenacles of an inordinate appetite. Parly Not to split. That the party should never be turned down for the weakness or the ineffectiveness of one of its planks was, however, his strongest contention. He dwelt upon the fact that above all the meeting was a democratic meeting", though devoted to the consideration of the practicability f furthering, for the good of the city and of the state, the matter of prohibition. He plainly pointed out that prohibition is only an issue that the meeting was endeavoring to place before the party for incorporation into its platform of social and economic reforms. Mr. Pyle gave a short sketch of his experiences in campaigning with the democrats of the county in the past. He showed the inclination at the beginning of Ids political career and pointed out the marked tendency for prohibition. Dr. S. W. Raer and Dr. P. (I. Freyermuth each save short addres.es on the qip? tion of prohibition from the standpoint of the medical man. Dr. Freyermuth laid special importance on the fact that alcohol is not a food and even as a stimulant it is surpasso-d by many other drugs
