Committee is Given Power to Change Existing Rules of Transportation. I.On.SVILLE, Ky., Nov. IS. Plans for relieving the present country wide car shortage through the agency of a committee of railroad representatives sitting; in Washington, were presented to Commissioner McChord of the interstate commerce commission here Friday afternoon By a special commission appointed by the American Railway association to confer with him. Commissioner McChord extended his tentative approval of the plan, which will le put l.efore the interstate commerce commission at once. Commissioner McChord will, it Is understood, leave Tuesday for Washington to meet with the committee of railroad representatives which has been appointed to sit there. This committee, which has been given practically plenary power by the American Railway association to enforce, or to modify the existing car service rules, will remain in Washington, it is said, as long as the interstate commerce commission feels? there is any occasion for their presence. The commission is made up of V. A. Pearson, vice president of the New Y'ork, New Haven Hartford; H. M. j-haffer, general superintendent of transportation of the Pennsylvania; K. A. Copman. vice president of the Southern railway: W. Jj. Park, vice president of the Illinois Central; W. A. Worthington, vice president of the Southern Pacific, and George Hodges, chairman and secretary of the car service commission of the American Railway association. One member of the Interstate commission will, it is understood, act with this committee as long, as it is sitting and will pass upon all the measures that may be proposed for providing relief for any particular section where an acute shortage of any class of equipment develops.
