There are quite a number of local ; i
citizens, well known and otherwise, who at present writing are on the anxious seat. They are the ones who favored the election of Wilson or Hughes so strongly that they were willing to wager quite a bit of money as to the outcome. Just now the Wilson supporters are more cheerful although neither side has given up hope as the election is one of the closest in the history of the country. It was estimated about a week before the election that around $100,000 had been watered on the outcome. There were many bets made during the last few days previous to the election and this amount may have heen doubled. The holders of the money are keeping it until the result Is sure. There are .quite a number of young fellows In the city who may sport a new suit within the next few days; or they may not sport their new suit. The suit money is tied up and naturally they are worried. In addition to this the man who agreed to push a peanut around tho block is having a few days of grace.

NKW YKK. Nov. 9. Republican National Chairman Willcox tDday issued the following statement regarding the democratic charges of election frauds: "So far as the democratic claims of election frauds are concert ed they began to raise the cry of fraud before election. The history of that party is such that it illy becomes
them to raise a crv of this kind. All !
right-thinking people are concerned in orderly elections and in an honest count. The republican national commKiee will insist that the vote cast for the candidate of this party shall le properly counted. We want no vote not properly cast for republican candidates and shall take every step to see to it that the vote that has heen cast shall be rroperly counted. The bluster of the democratic leaders will have no e.Tect on us In our efforts to see that a proper and honest count is had." Asked what specific steps were being taken Mr. Willcox sarcastically replied: "We have not called upon the attorney general of the United States nor United States district attorneys nor other officials of the United tSates to supervise the counting of the votes in any of the states. The voting machinery of all of the states Is under the administration of the authorities of each state and our representatives in each state will take all needful and proper steps to ree that the election laws have been obeyed and that all votes properly cast shall be properly counted. It follows of course that the call for an honest count, which we demand, shall be joined in and requested by all high thinking citizens of whatever party. "We welcome the fullest investigation possible. We have filed in detail all of our expenditures and are ready to file any further information desired. "I do not charge corruption nor fraud with intent to deceiving the people or of petting a head line. That is not the way that I conduct a campaign, hut if there has been any proof of any fraud it will be prosecuted vigorously."
