Motion pictures from th'productions to their present day 'iiiiith-ss showing of sreat dramas t-nd distint-'uished artists were discussed hy Miss Mary Grey Peck, a member of the sn ral federation of clubs last evening at the kindergarten training school. Miss Reck took as her main point for discussion the subject of "'Retter Pictures for Children." a problem which has been before the clubs of the city for some time. She talked of ways and means of interesting the children to attend tho pictures arranged for thdr enu rtalnmer.t and amusement. Numhor.s of the cluh women she said had sueret dd by offerimr prizes for the 1 est stories on the films shown. Miss Reck save statistics showins that at present there were ?,"' places in the country offering pictures for children all of them due to the efforts of the club women and mothers of the community. Miss I'eck spoke of the motion picture as an art still in its infancy, the development of which no one could imagine, an art that requires the services of the greatest dramatic artists, novelists and dramatists of the day. An informal discussion of children's plays was led after the lecture hy Miss Reck. SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING ON TONIGHT .Mayor Keller Calls Session After Meeting of Committee of tlie Whole. Owins to the fact that there was no meetins of the common council last Monday nijrht. Mayor Fred W. Keller ha; issued a call for a special rnt-oting to be held after the retrular meeting of the committee of the whole, tonisht. Since there was only .one member of the common council present at the last meeting nisht, it could not he called for business because a quorum is necessary. Most of the members understood that since some of their number would serve as judses at the registration booths, there would be no meeting. At the Tuesday nisht meeting the matter of an increase in the salary of the assistant to the building: commission, Teeple. will come up for final decision. BIG PROGRAM AHEAD FOR CIVIC CLUBS Project as Coliseum, Swimming pooN nrul Skating Kinks to Re Undertaken This Winter.

Plans for broadenins the work of the Civic clubs throughout the city this winter were discussed at the meeting or trie Civic Federation at the hish school ?.onday evenins. The buildins of a coliseum, the construction of swimmlns pools and! skatins rinks in the parks and playgrounds and the commission form of Rovernment will he features of the discussion. Mrs. W. R. Miller appeared in the interest of the bird club and asked that at least one evening at each club be set aside for the di.scus.sion of birds, .tereopticon pictures of birds will be presented with these talk: and effort will be made to form bird clubs in the various centers. Tho civic federation voted to cooperate with the board of public health in the housins survey which members of the federation stated they had been informed was to besin shortly. Members of the committee which was appointed more than a year aso to Investigate the erection of slowdown sins in front of schoois reported that while the work has teen done, the sisns had been erected at such an ansle as to become practically useless for the purpose for which they were erected. An unusually lar?:e number of continuances were entered at the Tuesday session of the city court, which was also marked by the notable absence of the usual half dozen or more intoxication charges. .am Obier, 417 Wood St.. however, plead guilty of intoxication. No evidence was heard in the case but the court took the matter under advisement and decided that a judgment would be rendered next Saturday. On the same date Mrs. Obier will appear before the court to hear judgment for the use of obscene lansuase. Her ca-se was tried Monday morning but no judgment was rendered. James Treliszka is held under a bond of $50 to answer charges on Wednesday of carrying: concealed weapons. Thursday the case of John Szbododa for failure to send his child to school will be heard. On the Fame day Newell McCaurey and Annie Shermon will defend themselves on petit larceny charges. FEW BUYERS ON MART Quinces Sell at $1 a Bushel Pears at 73 Cents. Quinces took a marked drop in price at the city market Tuesday morning when dealers sold them at a bushel or 100 per cent less than, on Saturday. Pears also changed in price, several producers Sellins them at 75c a bushel or an increase of 25c. Potatoes continued at J 1.50 per bushel, tomatoes at 4c a pound, cabbage at 2V2C and squash, the same price. Onions brought $1.25, while live old chicken3 sold at 17c, springrers at 20c and ducks, ISc. A very small crowd appeared at the market Tuesday morning and a correspondinsly small number of wagons. One application for service in the regular army wa-s rejected Monday by Sergt, iSkees of the local army recruiting station. The applicant was under age, the age limit being IS.
