EGYPTIAN DOESN'T KNOW WHOM TO RENOUNCE, SAYS First Xatho of This Country Applies For Naturalization Paicrs at Torre Haute.
New-Times Special Servb-e TKURK HAUT!-:, Ind.. Oct. 12. , For the first time, so far a.s known, ! since the naturalization of foreign- ; rs in Terre Haute began, a native i of Eypt made application to John F. Joyce, county clerK. for his first papers. Charley Sarkin Ganem, a janitor, when he was called on to renounce his allegiance to foreign kings, princes and potentates, could not tell whom he wished to renounce. Neither could County Clerk Joyce after many vain attempts to tret this information. Mr. Joyce tailed np the chief examiner of the bureau of naturalization at Chicago and in a few minutes had the desired information. He was advised that Mehmet V., emperor of the Ottomans, ruler of Turkey, is the distinguished individual the man from Fgypt would be compelled to renounce. So, smilingly, but vigorously. Charley Sarkin Ganem renounced him, and while Mehmet V. perhaps ha.s too many other things on his mind at the present time to notice the loss of one citizen, Charley was a well pleased man. It gave him a chance to stand up and be counted cither for Charles Evans Hughes or Woodrow Wilson. If this democratic administration had performed no other public service than the enactment of the federal reserve act, it would deserve the unstinted approval of a grateful nation. Thanks to democracy and to democracy's great leader, the business man who is struggling to establish himself may now work out his destiny without living in terror of panics and hard times. The toiler in the factory may ply his tasks in .-ecurity, knowing that his employer's business is safe from assault. The farmer who must borrow to moe his crops may do so without spending his days in anxiety, his nights in nightmares of foreclosure ani disaster. Truly the scholar-statesman, whose red has struck the goblen rock of America's resources, to set free the wealth imprisoned for half a century, is a Moses who ha led America's industries from the wilderness of doubt and despair to the promised land of prosperity and hope. From Oov. (Jlyxm's keynote speech at the cionioratic C(n ention.
Rugs are Selling ctt reduced prices
Tomorrow will be the third day of our "Rugs selling at reduced prices". It has been truly been a "remarkable Sale" both in point of exceptional offerings and in point of the number of Rugs sold. To buy Rugs at prices ruling a year or more ago means much to the man or woman making Rug purchases today. It means money saved, as the last year has seen a considerable advance in prices. That's what this store is doing today tomorrow and 'till gone offering a lot of over 100 Rugs at prices prevailing a year ago. We advise an early inspection of the values now offered in Rugs on Third Floor.
