I5v Staff CorrciHindcnt. WARSAW, Ind., ejd. 2 S. Democrats predict a victory in Kosciusko county at the coming election, althoimh the repTililirans havo always proved the stronger in this particular part of the lath district. There are several reasons for the confidence of the democrats in this county, the principal ones l.ein the expressions of many progressives and repulMioun that they intend ty cast their vote fur I'res't Wilson on Nov. 7. Another reason for this im.'idr.nce Hi s in the fact that not in many years has there l.een so much enthusiasm and interest shown ly the party workers, while tlv county ticket is one of the Pest that has Seen put hei'oie the people in a lun' peri d. 11. A. (last, district chairman, and owner of the Warsaw Fnion, is not only devoting mudi attention to ilist riet affairs hut is making strenuous eft'oits to l,:ir.u' al-out a democratic victory in hi.-? county this year. Heretofore the republicans hae had ju.t an nl','f on the democrats down here and although the liu'ht will he a ha id one. Oast says there will be i change in county administration this yt.ir. County Chainnan William Shaffer is devoting all of his time to the work of hrimjin?; out every democrat ort registration day and is laying pj.c lins in ev.ry part of the (ounty for a vic tory on Nov. 7. Tioiilde in Itanks? Thus far the campaign down here has not warmed up to any trreat ex
tent. The repuPlicans tried to Lrinc:
out a huu-e crow,! to greet Charles I vans Mimhfs. the presidential runtlidute, last Friday, hut Micceedcd in '.ttrartimr only an average throng. There is some talk that all Is not well with the republican organization, the evidence heinff the fact that County Chairman Charles Kintzcl is not takint? an active part in the campaign. He has turned the work of the campaign over to an assistant and as far as could be learned fails to appear around headquarters except on extraordinary occasions when his presence is almost a matter of compulsion. Already a number of former progressives and republicans have come out for Wilson. Several prominent business men and farmers are reported to have refused to follow the republican .' ta rulpattcrs and axe quirtly making it known that they will support the democratic ticket at least nationally and in the state. It is expected that these men will be persuaded to come out tint-footed for Wilson within a short time, and some surprises are in store for the republicans if the predictions of democrats who should know can be depended upon. On Oct. 12 a bis; democratic meeting will be held here with C.ov. ILalston as the principal speaker. During the same month a rally for Congressman Henry A. I tarn hart, candidate for reelection, will be conducted, other state officials, including Atty. lien. i:van P.. Stoltenberg and Phillip Zoercher. clerk of the supreme court, will address meetings here during the month.

NEW YOUK. Sept. 2$. The somewhat rare disease called paratyphoid which is prevalent among the border regiments-, is entirely distinct from typhoid and is a much milder ailment. It was first described in 195 hy Dr. C.wyn of Johns Hopkins hospital. Baltimore. Other pathologists have carried the investigations forward and divided the disea.se into two types, paratyphoid A and R Sometimes the symptoms resemble those of summer complaint. In both types the eruption is larger and more pronounced than in typhoid fever, but the disease is much less pronounced. The European war has added much to our knowledge of paratyphoid. It is oftenest noticed in armies. Or. Iandouzy. a French physician, discovered a vaccine in December, lull, after the malady bad begun t trouble the troops in Flanders. Irs- Widal and Gourmont have proposed successive vaccination for typhoid and paratyphoid and recently published an article showing the favorabie results of triple vaccination with the tmcilli of the two paratyphoids and of typhoid 'ever. usiin two parts of the former to one of the latt r. They have proved the harmlessness of the triple vac:ine in i,vO) persons previously immunized with typhoid baxilli. The presence of paratyphoid In United .-"tales army troops has nothing to do with the effectiveness of typhoid vaccination.

New York City Public Schools Honor Columbia Grafoeola
Ii Every talking machine in use in the New York City public schools isi Columbia Grafonola! V At the National Educational Convention in New York City this summer, attended by over 40,000 leading teachers, principals and superintendents of the country, every school department demonstrating work to the convention used Columbia Grafonolas and Columbia Educational records because New York lias standardized them. V At all the leading Eastern Colleges and schools Columbia Grafonolas and Columbia Records are in constant use and have the universal endorsement of Professors and Students. As a prospective purchaser think what this means to you! It means that in buying a Columbia Grafonola you will become the owner of an instrument which has been subjected to closest scrutiny by the keenest and most analytical minds in the country and which has been considered by them to be the most efficient assistant in carrying on their great work of education. r It means that they found it to be of sturdiest construction, for there must be no faltering in work of this sort; of clearest enunciation, for each syllable has a meaning; and of superlative tone, for educational music must be reproduced without a shade of change. It is quite fitting that the instrument which has become the Standard of the Country should be sold in this community by the Ries Co., whose name represents the Highest Standard of Values. Wishing the educational features of the Columbia Grafonola to be enjoyed by every home in South Bend we will allow most Liberal Credit Terms. Prices $15.00 to $200.00.
