CHICAGO, Aus. 21. Kdward Y. .Morrison, a multimillionaire recluse, was named as the real father of two Kirls here recently adopted in proceedings Wednesday before Judge Landis of the United States district court. The accuser was Joseph Hurnstein, u junk dealer and husband of the girl's mother. His wife, lie declared confessed to him on her deathbed that Morrrison was the father of the cirls. The millionaire, who is nearly 80 years old, denied the accusation. Iiis reason for adopting the girls, he testified. was because their mother had pleaded with him, when she was taken ill, to tare for them. He had known them all their lives he said, and was fond of them. Anna the oldest is is, and her sister, Alice, is 16 ears old. ''hey have made their home with Morrison since their adoption a month ago. Promisol To .Matters. "Morrison attended my wife's funeral with me in June." Iiurnstein
testified. "I told Mm of my wife's confession. Monisoi- said: 'Very well. I'll fix it up with you.' " The action before Judge Landls was a petition to appoint a receiver for Morrison's properties which has been variously estimated at from $J. 000. 000 to JS.OöO.OOO. One of the contentions was that Morrison had adopted the two .uirls to prevent the city of Chicago from receiving the estate, which under the will of Iiis father, was to be used for educational purposes if Morrison died childless. Morrison is alleged to have given away to certain friends more than
$2.000,000 of his estate during the past seven years. One of the transactions concerned was the transfer to James Ward, his attorney, property on which the Hotel Morrison now stands. Worth 0er Two Million. it is declared to be worth more than $2,0e0,00o. Property alued at $."00.000 was given to the lawyer unconditionally. The transfer was made shortly after judgment had been obtained against Morrison. Jt was brought out before Jud-'e I-andis that John Sommers, who said he had know Morrison for -" years, had received $-00. (too for providing the aged millionaire with amusement. Judge Landis restrained Atty. Ward from collecting rentals amounting to about f 5,v o monthlv on property Morrison had presented to him and also lei lined to permit Ward to appear as counsel in the hearing which will continue Thursda .

LONDON. Auir. 2 4. With no important changes in the main war theatres, interest remains centered on the new allied offensive on the Saloniki front. The latest dispatches, hotvever, throw little liht on the situation, and the allies plans are somewhat obscure. London reports that the Bulgarians have advanced aloni,' the Struma alley and have entrenched themsUe at arious points. Derlin also reports further adxances for them on the riht winy, where they face the Serbians. Apparently, however, i o action of 1'irs.t importance has yet developed. Interest in the attitude of the Creeks h.is been heightened by disp;Jches telling of the determination of the Greek commander at .rez to resist the llulrfari.ins nnd f volunteers beir.i-' organized for his ;usis' ance by the Venizelos leaders al Saloniki. There h. been no further development in tho Rumanian situation. The )a-t report from Berlin maintain-- that Rumania has nut reached a decision. ( n the western front the Trench arrarently are marking timo while the British push a trains Thiepval and tliMllemont. lnrton reports a fresh tiirhtenirar of tlie rin around Thiepval in the capture of two hundred vards of 't rman trenches south .f the t..wn. latter tihlinu' is oinp on in this section. The (lerman j i-eeled in entering &otne lintish
trenches but, according to london, were immediately evicted. ITcury Stnwrslc I iei e. The fierce Jtrurgle around 1'leury, in the Verdun sector continues. The I-'rench claim "an appreciable advance" between Fleury and Thiaumcnt and the capture of two hundred prisoners. Conflicting claims are made by Berlin and retrograd on the fighting on the cistern front. Roth report the capture of positions near Jablonitza pass, where a violent struggle has been in progress several days on the cret of the Carpathians. Berlin also claims the sanguinary repulse of Russian attempts to cross1 the Wokhod and apparently desperate rightinc is going on. Roth Berlin anil London continue to make claims and counter claims in regard to the recent lighting in the North sea. Berlin admits that the battleship Westfalen was struck by a torpedo from an Bnglish submarine, but train tains that the damage was slisht. The Jerman admiralty reiterates that a British battleship was heavily damaged by a fjerman submarine. This is emphatically denied by the British admiralty.
