COOP AND LENT'S CIRCUS v f I i r : 4 - I i f 1 It is asserted that Coop and Ient ; possess some of the very best clowns ! in the circus field. j There is a laugh a second tucked ! iway between exploits of daring and ! teats of skill. 16 PROBLEM
GROWING SERIOUS
Dearth of Accommodation Being Felt by Manufacturers Who Have Rush Orders. The housing problem in Mishawaka grows more serious every day. At present it is said there isn't a house for rent in the city, and as mechanics and their families are arriving daily, the problem is giving much concern to the manufacturers who are advertising broadcast for all kinds of help. While there are many homes built throughout the city at the present time, it is said that the big majority of these ar of the cheaper class, and for rent around $10 c r $ 1 per month and are all rented before completion. What is mostly wanted are home that .vill rent from $20 to $2." ami any number of such dwellings would lind ready tenants. It is thought strange that owners of real estate now lying idle in every part of Mishawaka, would not consider the building of such homes a splendid investment, .and would seize the present opportunity of utilizitig their lots for such purposes. The )odge Co. has opened a night employment otlice in the city, and i.s taking on all the machine moulders', and foundry and yard laborers it can get hold of. Many of these who find work, are forced to seek residences in South Fend, while several have had to o to Klkhart for accommodation. On the other hand, several men with families who hae come to work in the city have returned to their homes, after having found out that there are no houses for rent. The manufacturers of the c it y were never as busy in their history as at pre vqu. and have sufficient orc' rs ah-'ad to keep them working to capacity for many months. The Perkins Windmill Co., one of the city's iddest industries, is employing over l.'.O hands, and a few -days ago shipped .a car of its windmills to South America, this being the first shipment in two years. Large orders hare recently been received from the west, and according to Falph W. Smith, manager, the business of the concern is in better shape than for several years. If living accommodations could be found for all the mechanics and laborers who could find employment in Mishawaka at the present time, the city's population would be inereisfd very materially. MACKENZEN NOW SAID TO BE IN BALKANS DIRECTING TEUTONS News-Time Special Service: PAFIS. Aug. 22. Field Marshal von Mackensen who was recently reported Iry Ftenrh army officers to be directing German operations on the western front, is now reported to be in supreme command in the Falka ns. In the view of military critics, the reported presence of Fiel! Marshal von Mackenzen in Macedonia is worthy of credence. It was he who directed the operations of the Teutons and Fulgarians on the great drive that conquered Serbia, so he is familar with ground and the conditions prevailing there. Yon Mackenzen has never fought on the western front, so far as known. Victory in the Falkans is essential to the central powers if they are not to be cut off from their ally, Turkey, and consequently the kaiser would naturally select one of his most brilliant generals in supreme command there.
