Smith's South Rend club and "Red'' Ainsworth of the Highlanders staged as pretty a pitchers' duel out at
J Athletic park as one would care to
see. For five innings each hurler allowed but one hit and Ra-hang and (Day, lead-off men. obtained them on their first time at bat. Neither hurler allowed a base on balls throughout the game. It was in the eighth that the Highlanders did the damage and six consecutive singles, three stolen bases and an error gave a collection of rive runs, blanking the Renders. Shafer lead off with a single between Hensling and Tannehill, and "Red" Ainsworth put one down to Hensling that he was lucky to stop after Shafer had stolen second. Gray singled to right and Shafer scored. "Red" going to third. Gy.gh singled into left and "Red" scored, while "Dolly" went to second. Gray arid Gygli started a double steal and both were safe and scored on Joe Mat Iks' liner over Tannehill. Mathes went to second on the throw home and to third when Grodick dropped McColl's throw. Holderman came through with a single to right and Mathes came in with the final run. "Spike" Laross put a liner th Tydoman and a quick throw caught Holderman at first. Reall made a dandy little one-handed stop of Tydeman's throw.
