MOTOR STS PLAN
MESSAGE RELAY Reserve Corps May Send Epistle From Capital to Washington. With a iew to enlivening national interest in the volunteer motor car resere corps of the F. .S. A., which had its inception in South Bend, and ( for the purpose of demonstrating the efficacy of the motor car for military service, plans are in contemplation for relaying an official message relating to the organization, from Indianapolis, via South Bend, to Washington, D. C. Tentative plans xire for relay "legs'- of 100 milefl, or thereabout, to be made hy such cars as may volunteer for the service. No stops would be made, except for delivering" the message over to the .succeeding bearer, at the end of a "lop," unless forced by unexpected circumstances. TvM of Kml Value. A test of thid nature, it is declared by motor car enthusiasts, would l e regarded as of more than ordinary importance, by military authorities, as well as by those who ar more Interested in the performing J ability of cars. There is every it-a-son for believing that, under favorable conditions as to weather and roads, existing records for speed ( and elflciency of motor cars would j be dealt solar plexus blows or at least the effort would be made. Sevrial motor car manufacturers have manifested their interest in a test of this nature, while giving cordial en I dorsement to the initiative of Soutn Bend in forming the first volunteer motor car corps in the country. A local manufacturing concern has written expressing hearty syi.-
pathy with the idea, ami saying, j "We believe it is a splendid move-! WASHINGTON. July 27. Great ment and should receive the suppon : Britain, in granting conditional perol all loyal Americans who have the mission for importation of food into

Poland. has surrounded her concession with restrictions which, it is feared here, will again defeat the effort being made by the United States to Ret relief supplies to the starving Polish people. Although acceding to the suggestion that food be permitted to pass through the British lines under guarantee that its distribution would be supervised by u neutral commlsi sion, the British government has I stipulated that in return the AustroI German forces oceuping Poland must not take native food from the territory. It is understood that Germany acme time ago indicated her willingnests to give such a guarantee regarding native crops in the territory occupied by her forces, but only on condition that. American relief work he extended also to Serbia and that the permanent German police force of 100,000 men in Poland be fed on supplies bought there regardless of whether such food had been brought in by American commission or had been produced in Poland. Austria never has made any guarantees regarding the territory she occupied. Department officials are still hopeful of success. DANISH ISLANDS KNOW LITTLE OF COMING SALE Negotiations, Iloveer.
