In f;'t, (this is a secret), many are leading ladies just l-ecause of their attractive locks. Inquiry amonij them discloses the fact that they brini? out all the natural beauty of their hair by careful shampooing, not with any soap or makeshift, hut with a simple mixture which they make up for themselves b7 putting a teaspoonful of canthrox, (which they et from th driurpist), in a cup of hot water and applying this instead of soap. Says He Was Not in Slot Machine Business With Yount or Williams.

MtW'CIE, Ind., July L'5. Dr. Kolliti II. Bunch, mayor of Muncie and accused of conspiring with former Deputy Prosecutor Gene Williams and police officials to solicit and accept bribes, took the witness .stand in his own behalf late Monday afternoon and emphatically denied the traft charees that had been made ae iiust him by the state's witnesses. The mayor's examination huste! about one hour and a half before the close of court, and it consisted mostly of denials of questions put to him by his attorneys. After denying that he was ever in the slot machine bin-Truss with Lloyd Yount and Gene Williams, former deputy prosecutor, who was recently convicted on a conspiracy charge to solicit and accept bribes. DANISH ISLAND SALE NEAR CONSUMMATION

rorniidable Harriers to Agreement Willi V. S. Iteportcxl to 11 vo I loci i Itemoetl.

WASHINGTON, July 2.. Negotiations between the United States and Denmark for the purchase of the Danish West Indies are understood to have reached a definite stage where some Important development may come soon. While the purchase has not been concluded, there were indications Monday night that tome of the more formidable barriers to an agreement had been removed giving" the negotiations promlso of a successful outcome. The negotiations, a continuation of conversations carried on unsuccessfully in 1?01 and again in 1910, were resumed several months ago. It is understood that Denmark, feeling the pinc h of war, desired to rid herself of the islands not only as a financial proposition hut to eliminate one troublesome element in maintaining her neutrality. Lying near Porto Itlco, th? islands are said by naval officials to possess excellent advantages as a naval base and coaling station. It was understood that American Minister Kgan at Copenhagen, had been entrusted with considerable latitude in the preliminary stages of the negotiations. It was pointed out however, that no actual purchase could be effected until the senate as well as the Danish parliament had ratified the action.

NEW YORK. July ZZ. Agents and collectors employed by the Prudential Insurance Co. were called out on strike Mondaj' by a union recently organized among them and known as the International Insurance Agents' Protective association, with a membership of. 6,000. Although claims of the company and the union were conflicting:, it appeared Monday night that at least 500 men in this district have responded to the strike call thus far. The men demand better pay, recognition of the union and "more reasonable" working hours. Telegrams from branches of the union in different cities in the territory east of Chicago, leaders here declared, indicated that unless the demands of the men an; met all the

6.000 will follow the lead of those already out. About 13,000 agents and collectors are employed by the j

company throughout the country. The lack of sufficient collectors to see that premiums are turned in at the proper time, the strikers assert, will result in the cancellation of thousands of policies. The company, anticipating the strike, has announced that arrangements are being made to protect policy holders and to have the strikers replaced by experienced men. The company announced that none of the men who walked out would be reinstated under any circumstances.

LONDON, July 23. A significant remark was made in the house of commons Monday evening by Premier AS'iuith at the conclusion of a del-ate on a motion for adjournment made by John Redmond, the nationalist leader, after an announcement by the premier that the Kovernment had no intention of introducing any home rule for Ireland bill with regard to which there was no substantial agreement amnn? all parties. In appealing to the nationalists not to throw away the opportunity for bringing home rule into immediate operation, Mr. Asquith said: "I ask the house, and will ask the country If necessary if the government's proposals are not fe'r." Just before the motion of Mr. Redmond was voted down. Mr. Asquith directly addressed the nationalists, denying that any partiality had been shown to either side aurins tho negotiations.
