3-GAME SERIES Bowman, Who Held Them to Two Hits Sunday, to Hurl This Afternoon. Hy a J. Murra. Johnny Nee will brinsr his Vets, the champions of the first half of the season, to .South Pend this afternoon for the first of a series of three Karnes. Johnny has a number of htars on his team, among them beir: .Spencer, who has all season made a practice of banging out a hit re so in about every game. This will be the second visit of the Vets to our noble city and judging from the recent series which produced four real battles in the five games, there are goinjf to be some touh games staged at Springbrook park these next three days. Ikmman to Hurl. Abe Bowman will be on the firing line for the locals and Abe hopes to cop this time. Last Sunday Bowman went against the Vets and held them to a couple of hits but a bad hop on a throw from the outfield gave the Vets the edge. Sir Abe is out for revenge and he has an idea he is going to get it this afternoon. Another nice thin;? about the Dayton series is that the Vets will be here on Friday which is ladies' day and the fair fans of the city will et a chance of seeing the two teams in action and they will be 'Mit only carfare, provided they go to the park alone. After Dayton comes Wheeling, tli boys who beat the locals in one game, outlucked them in another and droppei another. Grand Hapidj and Muskegon follow in order, giving local fans 13 games on the home grounds which will inciiue two Sundays. Tydeman and Watson, two rc-w-players, will be s-efn in action for the first time on the home lot this afternoon. Charlie Donnelly returned yesterday, bin is in no condition o catch. He left the learn .Sunday and went to see Donesetter Heese, but this gentleman had left Youns?town, Ohio, on a vacation and will not be back until sometime in August. Donnelly's arm has been bothering him and he wants to get it in shape so he can peg down to second. Win Threo in Kißlit. The locals have won three out of tho eight games staged on the load since the present season started. In only two of these were they badly defeated. They dropped three games by one lone run and won three by the same margin. They have been playing regular ball and their opponents knew after the same. was over that they had been forced to go some in order to win. Smith has been busy trying to collect a good ball club and it looks as if he has succeded. The local crowd is only two games behind the .500 mark and by the end of the present home stand should be well up in front. THREE UNEARNED RUNS HELP REAPERS TO WIN Heat Teno llntito In Hrt of NvrUv.
