JOHNXYtWKi:. Materials One egg. 2-3 cupful si. gar, ij teaspoonful salt. 1 cupful each sour milk, cornmeal and üour, 1 teaspoonful soda. Utensils Mixing bowl, cup, spoon, bat baking pans Directions Peat egg ai.d sugar together; add salt, flour anil cornmeal, stirring in the milk grauually. Wet the soda with a ery little? boillr.g water and add to the mixture. Pake in well-buttered pans. SHRIMP ( OCIvTAIL. Materlais One tan shrimps, 1 2 teaspoonful each lnegar, lemon juice, tomato catsup and grated horseradish. drops tobasco sauce, skins of lemons. Directions Fill the lemon skins two-thirds full of shrimps which have been broken in pieces. Mix he ingredients for the sauce and pour oer the shrimps. Set in bowl of cracked ice until thoroughly chilb-d. Place each lemon skin in a rocktail pdass and surround it with t hipped ice, disposing a cut slice of lemon on the edge of the glass. DATE TORTE. Materials One cupful each cracker or breadcrumbs, dates ani granulated sugar, 2-3 cupful w ilnuts, 1 teaspoonful vanilla and 3 eggs. Utensils Earthenware baking dish, mixing bowl, eggwhip. measuring cup. Directions Add the dry ingredients to th well-beaten yolks of ezgs. Whip the whites well and add to the mixture, also the anilla rurn i Inte the baking dish nnd bake hour. Serve with hard whipped cream. sauce or LIVI'.K LOAF. Materials One lamb's liver, 1 stalk celery. 1 small onion, 2 teaspoonfuls catsup. 4 teaspoonfuls melted butter. Utensils Stewpan, meat chopper, small square mold. Directions Poil the ll or. onion and celery until tender. Put through meat chopper. Add catsup ami melted butter. Press into mold and leave at least 12 hours to harden. Slice in thin slices and garnish with sprigs of watercress. DANDELION' SALAD. Arrange dandelion leaves in a circle on individual salad plates. In tho center of each plate place of the yolk of a hard-boiled egg, pie-king the egg with a silver fork so that It will resemble a flower. Pour French dressing over all. SORRIX SOUP Materials one cupful sorrel, 2 cupfuls- water. chopped 2 tablespoonfuls butter, 4 ta blespoonf uls Hour, 1 table-spoonful catsup. 1 cupful milk, 1 cupful cream, 1 small onion aril fuU and cayenne pepper tc taste. Utensils Stewpan. double boiler, egg-beater, spoon, cup. . Directions Cook the sorrel and I onion in butter, then add the water: ! cook .".0 minutes. Cook (' jiir and milk in double boiler 20 minutes, rrmove from fire and add ream, beaten egg. catsup and strained sorrel. Season and serve. ROILED IIAION WITH GREENS. Materials Pie.-e of bacon, not too fat: mixed greens. Fter.sils Granite kettle, colander, fork anil sharp knife. Utensils Faking pan, boiled boiled ?poon. knife. Directions Cut the stem end from sweet green peppers. Fill with a mixture made from the rice, tomato, minced olives and chopped hardboiled eggs. Place in pan containing a little water and melted butter, busting often. SULTA X. SCON IX. Materials One-half pound Hour, ". ounces sugar, 1 ounce butter, 1 egg. 1 teaspoonful soda. 1 teaspoonful cream tartar, 2 ounces sultana lalsins, a little sweet milk. Utensils Scales, teaspoon, cup, knife, mixing pan. baking pan. Direct. ons Keep out a little of the egg to brush over the top. Mix 1 the ingredients as you would any stiff dough, shape into round llat cakes and mark each cake into Hour, but do not cut throjgh. Rrush with egg, dust thickly with sugar and hake about twenty minutes. CIIEUKY DAINTY. Materials Canned nr fresh stewed red cherries, ladyiingers, whipped cream. Directions Half fill a glass dish v-Ith cherries. Arrange ladyiingers on top and put spoonful of whipped cream on the cakes. Serve at once. MUTTON CHOPS. liONDOX STYLE. Have the butcher prepare rib ehops by taking out the bone and lolling them, fastening them well with skewers. Insert a little stulflng, heaping some on top. Place in dripping pan with a very little water; take about a half hour, basting frequently. wati:r( ri:ss and cream cheese salad. Fresh watercress, crisp and cold, mixed with a little mince, 1 onion and finely shredded smoked finnan huddie. Press with French dressing and garnish with a cream cheese ball j-nd a slice of beet. MARBLE CAKE. Materials Three-quarters cup shortening, 2 cups sugar. 4 eggs. 1 cup milk, 1-2 cup cocoa, 3 1-2 cups r!our, 3 teaspoons baking powder, 1-4 teaspoon salt. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Utensils Mixing bowl, 2 measuring cups, eggbeater, wooden spoon, teaspoon, Hour sifter, 2 small turk'a heads (tubepans) or 2 brick pans, paper to line pans. Directions (.'ream shortening and sugar until light. Separate the eggs, 1 ert yolks until creamy and add slowly to sugar and shortening. Add half the Hour, which lias been lifted with the baking powder, then half the whites of egs, which have been beaten until light. Add the rest of the flour and anilla and the balance of white of egg. Divide tho mitxure. To half add the cocoa. This will be a ery stiff mixture. Put in pan alternately a spoonful ef dark and a spoonful of yellow mixture, until pans are two-thirels full. Put in moderate oven and bake 4" to 4 öminutes. This makes a largo cake. Mrs. Frank Klos, 411 S. Chapin st., was delightfully surprised Monday evening by a company of 45 ladies, the occasion was the 12th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klos. The evening was spent very socially and at its close delicious luncheon was served. Yictrola selections were also enjoyed. Mrs. Klos was presented with a beautiful dining room table and other pretty presents. About 200 members of St. Stanislaus church enjoyed a picnic at Janowski's grove Tuesday afternoon.
