"Bed" Fisher who since the start of the season and up to Wednesday's game has been taking care of left field has been turned loose by Smith and pfergelt will Mil his old place out in left field until Hensling is able to play regularly. Fisher has been one of the season's great disappointments. He has been unable- to hit, but otherwise looked what he is, the finished ball player. Ben Koehler who played with him a couple of seasons refused to let "Bed" go as he felt sure Fisher would get started. But "Bed" failed to deliver and his releasv was in order. "Bed's" case is similar to that of Fd Collins of the White Sox. He has always hit that ball in years gone bv and managed to clout near the .300 mark in every league he performed in. But like Collins this season, he failed to live up to past performers. "Bed" otherwu-e is not the star Collins is and the local cluh whic h is limited to 13 men could not afford to carry him longer. But if he can get started hitting like he has in years gone by he will make a valuable man for some club, for he can cover ground out in the garden. lias iMxe llurlcrs. Smitli has five hinders on his staff and intends carrying the quintet for a time although as soon as Hensling is back in the game he will have to release one player to get down to the 13 men limit. Bafferty who has been in town for several weeks and who expected to get a chance with the local club is due to disappointment. Smith in order to work him would have to sign him to a contract and to do this would have to release one of hi. regular hurlers to get down to the limit. Bafferty in his work at Springbrook park showed plenty of stuff, but his arm now is not in the best of condition and it is doubtful if he would be able to go the full nine innings. Smith on Thursday stated that he was not selling or releasing any good plavers, but instead was- in the market for good men. The club has won three in a row but Kd is not satisfied. He wants to he up there in the running and stands ready to pay the money if he is certain that the man he buys can deliver the goods. He has bought several who failed to deliver. .Many Ixft on Bases. The locals in the last three games have made a record in getting men on the paths and while thej won the three contests a few timelyblows or long drives would have added to the total runs scored. They have had 3 men left on the sacks in the present home stand. The pitcher are going gord now and the showing of Kelley. McColl and Hill was all that could be asked. Hill yesterday kept the blows scattered and closed down when the enemy threatened. Herb has been ill most of the season and once he gets to feelirg right he is going to be a hard proposition for the other clubs.
