Itutledkre has tiled his verdict on the death of Dena Uaker. nine-year-old daughter of A. C. Baker, a Montpelier grocer, who died A tux. II. 1915. The coroner's finding leaves the question of the girl's death as much a mystery as ever, the verdict statin: that "she came to her (Teath by carbolic acid poisoninjr: that from the circumstances surrounding the case and the evidence at our command, it is impossible to determine whether the acid was self-adndnistered or given by the hand of another." The verdict leaves the case open and it is possible that it may be taken up by the next grand jury. At the time of the girl's death a searching investigation was conducted. Although there was strong circumstantial evidence not enough facts were gleaned to warrant the filing of charges- against any person. Mrs. Maker, Dena's step-mother, testified that the girl had said she swallowed the poison because she wanted "to go to heaven." Neighbors charge that the girl had been mistreated.
