DEATH DOES NOT END ALL TROUBLES
Is Only the Beginning for Some Declares Rev. J. T. Orton. "Salvation represents two things," declared Rev. Julius T. Orton at the Hope Presbyterian church last night. "It represent something Christ does for you and likewise it represents something you do for Christ." Rev. Orton's theme was. "Securing the Touei; of Jesus," and was taken from two texts, "And Jesus saith unto him. 'I will come and heal him.' The centurion answered and said, Ixrd. I am not worthy that Thou shouldst come under my roof; but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed' " (Matthew 8.T-S); "And Jesus said. 'Who touched me?' When all denied. Peter and they that were with him said. 'Master, the multi tude throng thee and press thee, and savest thou. Who touched me'."" (Luke 8:15). "There are two narratives and two fundamental truths contained In the text. They tell the .story of redemption, cleansing and healing. Leprosy is a disease which is almost a case of helplessness, yet the Iord removed the disease and made him clean, for he was willing. Willing ness is all we neea to receive .nnstianity. There are men who are on i the verge of the grave but refuse to admit that they need help, and they die without yielding to God. There isn't a person here tonight who hrsn't experienced some secret trouble. We all have our tragedies and troubles, yet they are not great enough to keep us away from God. Christ is here more today than He was when He walked through the hills of Judea. "Many people have the pleasing thought that with death comes the end of all troubles and pains. Yet their troubles are only beginning unless they are saved before they die. What does it mean for Jesus to touch the human life today? Do you know a great stirring of the heart is experienced when we bring Christ near us? He touches us with a hidden hand and makes our heart vibrate with His love. He touches human life at its vital point. Morality comes to the place where we are living, but Jesus Christ conns to us wherever we are living not only because of our sins but in spite of our sins. All of us have sinned, yet we are net forsaken." CHURCH MEMBERS MUST DO THEIR PART "Christ has done His part, the apostles have done theirs, and the ministers are doing theirs, it is therefore up to you to do yours," declared Rev. Cecil Castle in his sermon last night on "The Prayer of Christ" at the Linden Avenue Christian church. There have been a total of 13 converts at the Linden Avenue church so far during the revival, according to the pastor last night, and the interest in the campaign continues as great as ever. "Christ died on Calvary's cross to redeem us who are here tonight as much as anyone else," declared the speaker. "He is continuing today just as much as He ever was His effort to save us. Today, just as on the day that He left the joys and splendors of heaven to come down upon earth to be a man and to suffer as a man, Christ is working to save us and no matter how we treat Him He will continue to help us as long as we turn to Him. But are you using the opportunities that God is giving vou for salvation? Are you taking advantage of the opportunities afforded by this retreat, for instance? Are you setting a good example to your neighbor in this regard? Remember, that the man that sets a bad example to his friend and neigh, that leads his fellow man into sin is a robber. He robs Christ." Proper Way to Keep Your Hair in Curl If you want your hair to prow nnd thrive, tion't curl it with a hot iron. He spoke throughout of an average man whom he called Jones and showed why this man should become a Christian. "'Jones, let us say. lives here, in this community. He is a good father, a good neighbor. He ha.s two children, a boy and girl. They are the average hoy and girl. Jones hopes that they will grow up to be useful citizens. He hopes to give them a better education than he had. "This man don't thjoct to his wife going to church if the doesn't come home late to get his dinner. He sleeps late on S'jnday morning, reads the paper through, then fools with the furnace, or if it is summer, pulls a few- weeds in the garden. He insists that his children go to the schools." The speaker said that some churches did not interest men enough to cause them to join and that the churches were, in a way, responsible for this condition. "Some people have the erroneous idea that because they belong to the church they are guarantee,! the power to do God's work. Part of the cost is to pray because without prayer we'ean do nothing as we will not gain God's intercession. Many people do not lift their hearts to God and pray for His divine assistance, but think that just because they attend church that the grace of God will he infused into their hearts. The people must do their duty, that is carry out God's work personally. (Jod put us on this earth that e might work out our salvation, but unless we carry out our creator's intentions we shall he lost. Jesus Christ atoned for our sin. when He came down to earth and died on the cross, but this was not the full atonement for our transgressions but merely made it possible for usto be .saved. "I'eople who do not pray as amend to salvation are in the same predicament as the people who are waiting to go to work but can not go becau.sH the car is unable to get any power as the dynamo is disconnected. It is the same with the Christian who docs not pray hecause prayer is the dynamo of Christianity."
