Municipal Xmas Tree Program Assumes Shape Slowly but surely the program for the municipal Christmas tree e clebration is- PciriK whipped into shape by the committee which met again Tuesday noon at the hiirh school to arrange details of the musical and dramatic features. The afternoon program which is to consist eif three tableaux, the same to be repeated in the evening, and several choral numbers by the school children is practically completed and its success now depends largely upon the cooperation of the parents of the school children in seeing- that all are on hand in time to do their part. The Christmas so !--'s, "Joy to the World" and "Holy Xi-ht." are to bo rehearsed in each of th schools and later at a mas.s meeting to po held at the hiqh school Sometime during the week j. receding tho Christmas vacation. It is the earnest wish of those planning the Christmas tree festival that parents will e rie-oi rage their children to take an active interest In this beautiful civic enterprise so that it may bo made as imprcssivo as possible" by the- size and volume? of the children's chorus. All the de tails of tho evening program, particularly with reference to the musical features, are not settled. It is probable, however that they will be ready for announcement after another meeting of tho committee next Tuesday when the diiVctors of many of the choir? of the city will be asked to be pre.j.nt and t assist in the definite' arrangement of the program. T HURT BUSINESS Frank LaPoint, Cigarmaker, Sues for SI 5,000 Set for February. John H. Quilhot. ice investigator, w ill e ither have te appear in the Klkhart county circuit court on the first .Monday in February or lose by default a suit for n.'.OOO that has been brought against him. The sj.it was brought by Frank IiPednt, a cigar manufacturer of this city, who claims that iuilhot damaged his business to that extent. While Quilhot was doing tho "sleuthing" among the druggists hero last year, he first became acquainted with these lealers througa the medium of KaPoint's cigars, says the complaint. He had been employed as a cigar salesman by LaPoint and secured easy access to the- various st res without attracting suspicion through his position. When Quilhot charged a number of druggists with violating the lv.vs, LaPoint claims that his brand of cigars was put in disroputo. lie says he' has he-en damaged to the extent of 113.00'i by CJuilhot. Originally the suit was tilled In the superior court here, but was venued to Flkhart county and came up there Tuesday. Attorneys for Quilhot, Weldler, Parker & Pettengill, appe-ared before the court and filed attidavits that they knew nothing it the whereabouts of their client. Jellison K.- Joliison, attorneys for LaPoint. had the case set as the first jury case next term. It will he tried on the first Monday In February, before any f the criminal cases. Political Gossip Ft. Joseph county lawyers are commencing to take an active interest in the coming campaign, and especially in the primary race for prosecutor, which promises to he a heated affair so far a.- both parties are concerned. Democrat lc candidates for prosecutor will ne doubt be in the plural number with Dan Nye and Sam Schwartz, at present doputii s under Chester Montgomery, seeking tho nomination at the primaries Mar. 7. Some arrangement may be made between these two, but they are both in an aggressive as well as receptive mood, fay their friends. That the acid test will bring Al. Slick out as the republican candidate for prose-eutor is the' opinion of South Mend barristers of both clans. Slick is figured to be the only so-called aspirant for the office who could make a favorable showing in the election. Several republicans a-e being pushed forward, person-a-'Jy and by their friends, but the undere urrent seems for Slick; he has had experience running for the oflice. Judgo Joseph A. She-a of the Indiana appellate court is a candidate for appointment as Fnited States minister to Chili, according to Indiunapolis gossips. Judge Shea recently made a trip to Washington accompanied by Crawford Fairhanks, and with the announceme-nt that the present minister to Chili would be moved t Mexico preneding his jaunt, a desire for the po.st was all but intimated. Kdwanl Me(P:ff of Fort Wayne, a candidate for the republican nomination for county coinniis-sioner, had ample reason for hitting th war path the othT day following ;i euliar caprho of the advertising game. "What's the idea?" (juerie-d a friend. "I se-e' your cards on telephone pedes up the street here- saying you're a candidate and under every one of them is another card ith the word -Craft" in large letters." ' "You're crazy." answered McGuff. "Look." fa id tho friend. Mcduff went out ami looked, and found the friend was right. He didn't know at fust whether to g t angry or take it as a joke. He exatnila'. 1 the card labend "fJraft' found the bill poster's mark, vtstigation brought out this merely the name of a moving ture play. and pie"'(let those cards away." said MeOuff to the billposter. "I don't want that word 'graft" any closer to my name than China." Pepublicans of Lagrnrg county will hold a banquet at I-;grang.- the evening of I c. 17. All candidate s for places on the next republican state ticket have been invited to i.e present. Preparedness, while considered a favorable anti-plank fur the publican national party seems to much in favor in Indiana with a. tho car.y opening of campaign hem! luarters in several sections of the state, nourishing reports are being sent out by the managers concerning visits of elr legate "from miles around." while the accredited interest L- hard to find even in localities where the po'ithal pot has be-n 'oiling for wee ks.
