Sol Bloomfield is Sued for $5.000 By McMahill Co.
Internal troubles of the McMahill Co., a mercantile firm in South Hend were brought to liu'ht yesterday writh the filing rjf two different suits for damages in superior court against Sol Ploomfield. The first one in which the company is suing Rloomfield. charges that the latter failed tci pay into the treasury $1,000 for 10 shares of capital stock as per the stipulated agreement he is alleged to have made. The other suit against Hloomfield is filed by Arthur McMahill in which he charges that the defendant misrepresented the business statu t the concern. He says that Hloomfield conspiring with his brother Henry Hloomfield doctored the I Mioks of the concern to ?how that the daily sales aYi-rayed $100 per day, on some davs Koing- as hish as $150 and $4S0. As a matter of fact they average ? r. 0, the complaint avers. It was this fact, McMahill charges that induced him to invest $::,0on of his money in the concern. He says he believed Sol Bloomfield to bo a man of honorable business character, nnd when the defendant told the plaintiff (McMahill) about the business concern in order to interest him as a prospecthe purchaser of the store formerly held in the name of the brother Henry Bloom field, that he had every reason to believe what he told him. He complains that Illoomfield's statements were not born out after he took ovei the business as manager. The chief allegations are misrepresentation for which he asks judgment in the sum of $5,000. Noire Dame News Norm: dami: x i:ys. On Nov. UC, seventy-four years ago the founders of Notre Dame university arrived on the spot where the university now stands. Father i:dward Sorin, C. S. C, and seven religious brothers, among them Brother biwrence, for over 30 yeai the head of the business affairs of the university, were in the party. After a 10 day march through weather so intensely cold that they could advance the first day only five miles, they reached South Bend at length and immediately set upon the plans t( erecting a college in the wilderness. Ox teams carriel their effects to Notre Dame, which then presented a snow covered landscape, which save the spot of clearing, about 10 acres, and the surface )f the ice bound St. Mary's and St. Joseph's lakes, consisted of primeval forest. No formal cele-bration was held at the university jesterday but all of the old attaches of the pla e rec allm1 once more the struggles of the school from the beginning down to its present flourishing condition. It is hoped to make next year an event long to be remembered in the history 4f the school, when the centennial celebration of Indiana will take place. Plans are already being formulated for the affair and all tf the living graduates f the school are expected to attend the functions. If possible two new buildings will Krace the campus.
