H DISPLAY AI FAIR Woman's Exhibit at North Side Should Prove Big Drawing Card.
Rivalling, if not surpassing, in extent, variety and excellence of arrangement the woman's exhibit at the
Interstate fair, that department of the
north side fair. Mishawaka, was
bustled into order Wednesday morn-
ing and afternoon in order that the judges may begin their work and vis- ! itors may be admitted Thursday. The fancywork exhibit la being held in the Winey hall and the culinary exhibit in the Gaylor building on Main st. Included in the fancywork exhibit is embroidery and crochet of every variety imaginable, many of the indi
vidual exhibits eomi) rising 10 pieces while one, that of Mrs. Claude Itoot, 1342 Lincoln way Y., South Bend, has 20 pieces. Sixteen hand-made bedspreads, including 15 crocheted and one white embroidery, have been entered, several of them having been exhibited previously at the Interstate fair. Perhaps there are no more interesting features of the exhibit than the extensive display of old bed coverlets, spun and woven 75 and 100 years ago. Mrs. Reeby Van Valin of -Mishawaka has entered a spread which vas woven in 1818 in Canton. O., by Mrs. Mary Deppen and handed down in the family to the. fourth generation. Mrs. J. 11. Chandler of Mishawaka is exhibiting a beautiful old coverlet made in South Bend in 1S50. In one corner Is woven in quaint letters the inscription, "Fear God and keep His commandments." One spread made in 1S53 was spun, dyed and woven by its maker from the wool of a sheep raised on her father's farm. An old Masonic bed cover included in the display was made in 1S2 9. The white embroidery display and the crochet is little short of marvelous for its extent and lino quality and the individual beauty of the entries.
