WAR CAMP MEN TO MEET Local Committee to DImmks Mutter Saturday at Oliver. Definite action on the establishment of a military efficiency camp at Culver by local men for any person in Indiana will be taken at a meeting to bo held at the Oliver hotel Saturday night at S o'clock. Among his bequests Is $150 to he Mt. Zlon Baptist church. The bulk of the remainder of the estate goes to the African Methodist Kpiseopal church after various small sums are taken out for certain friends. Tho will Is dated Aug. .11, 1913, and John K. TO RETAKE ENROLLMENT llili School Teachers Failed to Follow Instructions Owing to the misunderstanding of the high school teachers in regard to the making out of registration cards. the correct enrollment and tho li.-'t of pupils in the school will not be known until next week. According to a notice on tho bulletin board at tho high school, the Instructors failed to correctly follow out instructions printed on tho cariLs. A system of numbering every pupil on the registration card is used at the high school and the failure to handle the cards correctly made all of them useless. Now cards' will bo printed and the correct enrollment will be taken next week. MAKES MONTHLY REPORT Humane Officer Was Busy Man During August. Tho monthly report of the Humane Society Otheer Moore for August showed that Grt cases were handled during the month. Of this number Ave were for cruelty to children, seven were neighborhood disputes, live were referred to the juvenile officer and board of children's guardians, four cross dogs were ordered to kept chained up. I'O animals were destroyed, and four neglected horses looked after. Other miscellaneous matters were attended to by the Humane officer. Nutwood Y outh Jilted by Girl Would Suicide Arthur Fink, n young man who lives near Nutwood, wiw In love with a young woman who lives in South Bend. Iiegulaily he would call at her home to pay his respects and eventually he became very fond of her. Iast week a quarrel separated them, and they decided that thereafter their paths would diverge. Hut young Fisk. after his first anger had subsided, relented, and endeavored to patch up their differences. When he failed he took arsenic. All day Thursday Mrs. risk, his mother, and a physician tended him at his homo and Thursday evening it was announced that his hfe would probably he saved. It was a fur Fi.sk had retired Wednesday night that hia mother heard groans from his room. he investigated and learned that he had attempted to take his own life. She summoned a physician and the two hastily applied remedies. Although his life hung by a mere thread through the night, by daybreak ho had somewhat improved. A series of pictures are to le taken in South Hend in tho near future the Pusehmann-Traub company Indfanapolta in connection with historical scenes being gathered by by of the the Nation Patriotic league. The league is preparing this series of pictures to be sent to Washington; There it will bo known as the Indiana series, and realistic scenes showing the Portages and Kankakee landings from this locality will be included. The pictures will be shown here in connection with the local celebration of the centennial exposition. An industrial series featuring all the manufacturing concerns in tho city will be taken and included with the films. of historic Interest. NOTED SINGER IS COMING Madame Sclitimaun-lleink to Appear at tho Oliver. Madamo Schumann-Heink. the noted opera singer, will appear at the Oliver theater in the first concert of tho year on Oct. 11. The ticket sale has already started, mail orders being the only ones that are being handled now. Tickets are also on salo at the ELbel store and the South Bend conservatory. KILLED BY EXPLOSION Investigation Will bo Made of dent at Cavite, P. J. A ecl MANILA. P. I., Fept. 10. An oincial investigation was ordered today of the explosion that killed Gunners Mate Elkins on the United States destroyed Iecatur and injured nine other men at Cavite yesterday after;noon. Bumors that the disaster was caused by a plot are scouted in American naval circles, but the inquiry will determine the exact cause. Two of the injured men.
