Wadsworth. president of the Cotton Growers' Co-operative society of Atlanta, Ga., was arrested Friday by Postollice Inspectors Mayhcw and Martin charged with using the mails to defraud. According to the indictment WadsWorth started in June, 1912, to promote a I illion dollar cotton growers scheme, which intended to crtate a scientific system of marketing the American cotton crop. Part of the scheme, says the indictment, was to impress on the farmer that cotton growers and manipulators had grown rich, while the farmer remained in serfdom and poverty. Wadsworth maintained a magnificent suite of offices in the Third National hank building in Atlanta. His letter heads said that the proposed capifl of the society was $50.0)0,000; the proposed bond issue $200,000,000 and the total resources of the company weiv S2oO.OOO,000. lie gave his name as president and the government alleges the company was managed, operated and controlled by him. It is further alleged that Wadsworth knew his certificate of incorporation was fraudently obtained and that no part of tlie capital stock has been subscribed and paid for bona fide before it started business and that the company never intended having any tide capital stock.
