Opening: day ceremonies nt Sprincrhrook park Sunday attracted an unusually larse crowd, in spite of the fact that only a few of the amusements were running. John i Devine and i'rank 1. Hardy, re-presenting the St. Joseph County I'air and Amusement Co., irvners and operators of the park, pried off -the lid at 10' o'clock in the morning, when they took the first ride on the siant clip, the recently completed roller coaster. Although it was the plan of Mgr. Dailey to stage the opening next .Sunday, June ej. the crowd was so largo that it was decided to start all of the attractions that are finished at once. Besides the roller coaster, the merry-go-round and the dance hall were in operation Sunday. All were largely patronized, the eiant dip taking in an average of $1.20 a minute and the other amusements meeting with ejual favor. At the dance hall, music was furnihed l.y a piano player and a drummer, secured to take the place of the five piece orchestra that will play there later in the season. Work on the half mile track, stahles. grind stand and other huildines is progressing so rapidly that Mgr. lailey announced Sunday that the grounds will surely he in readiness for the St. Joseph county fair on ept. 14 to IS. lhigineer Cole is rushing the work of construction so that the huildings will all bo in readiness for the event. The grandstand will have a natural foundation situated on the side of the hill in the rear of the casino.
