The Mai;e is set and the curtain is ready to he rung up e.n one of tho biggest entertainments of its kind ever held in Indiana. Saturday next will be "Farmers' Day" in Mishawaka. Some have called it "(Jet Acquainted Day." Call it whatever you will, it is intended that it will mark an epoch in the history of the city. At a meeting of the members of the Business Men's association held in the spacious jewelry store of W. H. Parmentcr Tuesday night much enthusiasm was evident among the large number of merchants of the city who were present when the details of the festival were disclosed. From present indications it looks to the committee which has the arrangements in hand, as if at hast 500 of the rural population will be guests of the merchants that day. Six hundred invitations have heen .sent out to the country folks living within a radius of 10 miles of Mishawaka. for whom a splendid program has heen arranged which will include, as the piece de resistance, an appetizing dinner, consisting of severul courses. This will he served at 1 o'clock in the old Methodist church hy the ladies of the German Lutheran congregation, who were awarded the contract hy the business men. The hand will discourse a program during the afternoon, whilo addresses will be delivered in the Century theater by special speakers to be followed hy a. moving picture show, tendered by the manager, George Senger. Haslanger, chairman of tho rural relations committee of the association, told of what h.'ul so far heen done on the entertainment program for the day. while O. K. Lins spoke of the advantages that would be likely to accrue from having the farmers as guests of the business men. Citizens have been asked to decorate their places of business on this occasion and to make the advent of the farmers and their families to Mishawaka as enjoyable as it is possible to he. In order to raise sufficient funds for the entertainment tickets have been printed which will 5ell at $2 each and which will he purchased by the merchants and will entitle the holders to partake of their dinner along with the guests of the occasion. Almost $100 was raised by this means at Tuesday night's meeting, when committees were appointed to make a thorough canvass of the business men in order to dispose of a sulHcient number to pay the expenses of the undertaking. Mayor Gaylor will make the address of welcome to the farmers, who will later in the day he addressed by C. L. Durham of Purdue university. On the day of the celebration all autoinohiles will park on Third st.. while horses will be tied along First st., on either side of Main. After the business had heen transacted the members were the guests of Mr. Parmentcr to a splendid supper purveyed hy Ross Lminger. "When the inner man had been satisfied, Mr. Parmentcr was accorded a most enthusiastic vote of thanks for the good things he had provided. ;m: succkssfiTj daxck.
