partakes something of the nature of a remarkable occasion. Extra importance is added to tho association of these three players since it marks the return of professional activity of Mr. Ctlllettc, after a retirement which at one time threatened to be permanent. Mr. I'rohman's sneers In inducing .Mr. Cillette to again appear is a matter for congratulation amor.i? playgoers who have the welfare uf the American theater at heart.

NO PintrORMANCK TODAY. There will bo no performance of the Pearl Stock company at the Olivettonight on account of a lecture, contracts for which were signed Orevicus to the date when the stock company was secured. However, tomorrow night the engagement will be resumed, the current week's offering being John P. Hitter's gripping do-
: mrstic comedy-drama. "The House of
Lies," rife with sincere human Interest. The Pearl Stock company has proved an instantaneous success. On ho other occasion has so much favorable comment been evoked by a pop-ular-priced attraction in sueh short space of time. No other stork company has offered South Rend playgoers such a pretentious production as Messrs. Webster and Yickery's players are presenting at the Oliver this week, and consequently generous patronage is anticipated, now that the ienten depression is over. Nearly every city the size of ours supports a good stock company, and Judging by tho excellent line of high royalty New York successes announced for early production, there is lit t lo doubt but that tho stock season will be an unqualified succes?. Quite a number of season ticket orders aro being booked, now that the merit of the attraction has been demonstrated the public.
