Then one evening the DePuyster car was held up by robbers and it was Pedro who came to the rescue. He had overheard his stepfather plotting the crime, and had tried to stop him. All this he told in gasps before he drew out the beautiful bidy's handkerchief and kissed it for the last time, for the bullet from his stepfather's pistol had entered Pedro's breast. He had given his life for "The Beautiful Lady." This afternoon the first performance of the Pearl Stock company will be given at the Oliver theater. This company is opening a spring season of stock and will present for the first bill a comedy drama entitled, "Tho House of Lies' which will continue for a week. For the first week the company has to give up the house for a Christian Science lecture on Monday evening and on Thursday evening William Gillette. Blanche Bates and Marie Doro will appear there. She is an adept in wending her way through this maje of languages. Charles Frohman, who gave his personal attention to the selection of the cast for "Diplomacy," chose Miss Sheridan for this difficult role after testing over a score of other applicants for the part.
