Then Mr. Pryan appealed for popular support of the president. MILLIONAIRE IS ARRESTED William J. Keenan of Juliet, 111., is Accused of Forgery.
P.IPM INGHAM, Ala., Feb. 5. William J. Keenan, Joliet, 111., millionaire and said to be head of the InterSouthern Directory Co., of New York which is alleged to be a swindling concern, lias been arrested at Jacksonville. Fla., according to word received by the local police. He is charged with forgery. Keenan was relea-sed on $5,000 bail. Four other members of the concern aro now in jail here awaiting trial on charges of forgery' and swindling. They are Andrew Dennison, Walter 1 tomans, Hurt Murr and P. F. Witherdon. With tho arrest of Keenan, the police state a nation-wide swindle has been broken up. The gang is said to have secured thousands of dollars by means of- forged advertising contracts and checks and merchants and manufacturers all over tin country have been victimized. Kern;: was taken into custody at his winu headquarters.

The affairs of the Mattingly and Moore distilling company of P.ardstown, Ky., were Thursday placed In the hands of the Fidelity and Columbia Trust company of Louisville until all claims are satisfied. This action follows the discovery of the duplicate warehouse receipts of the company. Outstanding paper of the concern amounts to $130,000. The worthless certificates are estimated at not mere than jaU.000. The Mattingly and Moore duplications was discovered in the investigation of the Ledowsky'caf c three weeks ago.

xili:s. J. M. Elmore, a brakeman employed on local trains, was injured Tuesday in this city. In attempting to cut off a train Elmore struck tho fence near the Main st. crossing. It is thought he has several lYactured ribs and is otherwise injured. His home is at Wabash. Clarence Ponnell was injured in a runaway accident Tuesday. His horse became frightened at a pair of bobs descending the Cedar st, hill. Mr. Ponnell was thrown out and a deep gash was cut in his head and several stitches were required to close the wound. Mrs. George Volkhart, -wife of Fire Chief Volkhart, was operated upon at Epworth hospital at South Lend Wednesday. Mrs. Volkhart is suffering from a tumor and a fall which she sustained a few das ago. F. J. Plym. H. O. Harbor and V. II. Kendall left Tuesday for Guelph. Ont.. where the Canadian factory' is located. Mesdames C. Crowley and Daniel Crowley, have returned to Jackson after a visit with Mrs. John Donahue.
