L I n RELIGION AND FUTURE S TOPIC OF SEflMOH Dr. Edwards Talks on "A Message and Hope of Immortal' ity" Doctrine of No After Life is Against Nature. "Cod dor? not practice wasteful habits of procedure in nature; we have come to know that matter is not destroyed but Is cons rved and transformed; the l.o. Ij.- Uuilt for the greatest eilici -ncy with the least waste, natural forces economize, and even the opulence of a world's Ceator cannot obscure the obligation of judicious and conserving economy," aid I lev. L'dwards in the fourth .t his sermons on "What is Helicon' ai the Methodist Memorial church Sunday evening. The topic for the evening was "Keligion and Future or a Message and Hope of Immortality." "Certainly then, lie will play no freakish pranks in the highest nalrn of the soul s spiritual lif-. To create a William S'hakcspear, a John Wesley or a William James and th-n after a few years to fling such glorious material to the scrap heap is surely unpardonable, even in t li Divinity II Imsfdf.". S'peaking of th;- unpromising outlook for those not beli-jving ip the hereafter and referring to tlie worldly rewards, he said: "Oh. no! this is not all and since Ood is goenl and tdnce moral order holds sway in His kingdom, there must be another life, and toward its glory we look and toivard its freedom we reach, beyond these clouded days and s rrovving years." The speaker next talked upon what he calls "The Practical Interest In Immortality." Among other things of a practical nature it was brought out "that the probability of permanence furnishes a strong incentive in an.y task, while nothing else s holds life to its highest and best capabilities as the stnse of the eternal. me might consent to be weak and vile and filthy for a night, but when h hears the Folemn judgment, he that is filthy, let. him be filthy forever, he is held hy tentaclts stronger than steel from a fate so dire and dreadful. "The final sanction of interest gathers around the name of Christ. The Nazarenc is the. final authority on the subject of immortal life. Socrate argued for a future beyond the grave. Plato speculated upon it, Wordsworth had his. 'Intimations of Immortality.' but Jesus gathered his inner friends about Him and planted hope in every heart as lie said. 'Let not your heart be troubled; believe in 'led. believe also in Me. In My father's house are many mansions; if it weie not so. I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you. I come again, and Trill receive you unto Myself, thii wdiere I am you may be also.' liut not only did Christ assume immortality He proclaimed it, I am the ressurection and the life.' " SUSTAINS INJURIES IN FALL ON ICY WALK Manager Hert I-Vault of the Mishawaka hotel sustained what are thought to be serious injuries when he fell on the icy sidewalk in the vicinity of Wayne st.. on S. DO NOT FORGET THE SHAME OF THE CROSS "There Came Darkness Over AH the Land" was the subject for tho Sunday evening services at the First Laptist church by Rev. A. Ii. Whitney. The pastor said in part: "With iill else that the cross means today, to us, wi must not forget its shame. Cruel as was its method of capital punishment, yet is authority wa.s that of civil government, and it was employed, in the name and power of legal justice. There came to be one cross set up in Palestine that makes us forget all others. That cross marks the high tide of human inbjuity inseperable from the sharre. "Those three hours of mid-day darkness weil symbolizes the moral darkness of our race. "It was our race that was on trial when tho misuse of power, given of for justice and worship, led to tho death of the Just One; and its power is misused today that is evolved in human guilt. "It was not enough for us that the Son of God for our shame should take the servant's form, but we must drive Him to the fate of the veriest criminal. He the best for the worst. As we did it, we can set conscience aright only as we repudiate it all, that slave estimate of the Matchless One for thirty silver pieces; that lawless spirit in the human heart that overrides all Cod's love; that indifference to the spiritual death of the divine substitute where sympathy could make His sufferings our own. The shame of it all is on our every soul till we repent of our sin's undoing and exchange our shame for 1 1 is forgiveness." Dollar Store. Day Friday at the Ilaslanger Advt. FARCICAL SKETCHES PLEASE AUDIENCE The large audience that greeted tho Leo boys efforts at their entertainment Sunday evening was well pleased with the result' and all felt repaid for venturing out in the storm. The first number, "The lira vest of Heroes," was particularly good and uncovered the fact that there Is a genius among the members of the church, as it was written by a local scribe. The black faced comedians in "The Xigger Store Keeper," kept the spectators filled with mirth, with their antics. The other two numbers. Howling for the season of 1915 is now well started and a few of the leagues are now ready to eommenct the down half of their schedules. Some leagues have schedules covering only 10 weeks. In the Commercial league, which is now half through, there still remains a chance for some of the teams to top the. list before the close, although if the lead of the Nyalists is allowed to continue there will be little hope of downing them. With 10 out of 12 games to the good it wouid seem that the team is well on its way to capturo the honors. The Reporters were compelled to give way to the Leatherettes for second place, the former team losing all three Thursday night to the top notchers. The slump in the totals of the Reporters, however, on last Thursday evening was probably due to the fact that every member was present as required by a recent ruling of the league officials. Another league from South Pend opened schedules at the alleys Friday evening. This league is comprised of the employts of tht Northern Indiana Gas and Hlectric company. purity ni;-T. Ther--? is a growing industry in South Bend which surely deserve? gnat commendation for the wonderful advanta.;s its affords the people of this community. 'liu-y have brought to :ni. city a boon which is not enjoyed by any other city in this part of the United States. They have given the people a means of eliminating the entrance to their homes of filtli and di-fase germs through the medium of a household necessity not generally regarded as dangerous. The product of this concern is known as "Vacuum Ice." and while thf company manufacturing this article is in business for profit, as all other concerns arc, yet th ir business is of such inestimable value to the health of the city that they deserve to be considered public benefactors. "Purity ' First" is the slogan of this firm, and while their prices are as low as those of any other concern engaged in.the ice trade, the jirice is not their talk in k i-oint. The wonderfully absolute purity of their product, together with it: beautiful "white marble" appearance, insures them a large patronage when the public have learned that the ice is to l.e litd here. Housed in a large, white brick building of modern construction on X. Emeriek st.. these people have one of the finest and most sanitary ice plants to be found in the United States, having a daity output of seventy-five' ions of ice per day, and cmploying many men in the ice season and quite a. number all the year around. Ice is here manufactured by what is known as the "Vacuum Process." which consist- of spraving artesian water i'lto ;t closed chamber from which all air and gases are pumped by a vacuum pump. The water immediately freezer when reaching the vacuum chamber and the pump draw:; all the impurities out of the chamber, and at the same time sterilizes the water, killing all bacteria or disease germs, as no life can live in a vat num. This process requires the highest known vacuum used in any industrial work, ami is very interesting. The water freezing in so nearly an absolute vacuum contains no air and consequently is of a beautitul white marble appearance when frozen and is more denser than any other ice and consequently not reaelily penetrated by heat. The ice is frozen in eakes weighing three tons and these are cut into twenty pieces by a large circular saw driven by an electric motor. Th" water is not distilled" nor docs it undcrge any chemical treatment or mechanical process except being sprayed iute the vacuum, and it has no opportunity to come into contact with any outside contamination. It has been proven by many scientific tests that the ice is absolutely free from disease germs, and when melted and evaporated leaves no filthy slime or leposit in the box. The water of tho melted ice is sparkling clear and cold, containing all the natural salts, and is absolutely the purest, sweetest drinking water that can be obtained. Tho
ice is recommended by reputable phyQuality First.
