sL U U i NORTH SIDE BUSINESS MAN DIES SUDDENLY John Gardner, a north side business man, died suddenly at his home, 11.1 K. Joseph st.. shortly after midnight Thursday. Ho was taken ill at his place of business and suffered a hemorrhage, from where he was taken t' his home. The physician was Just arriving when he passed away. He had had been ill about two weeks, but his death was unexpected. Mr. Gardner was well known in this city, having lived here for a great number of years. He was a good musician and in previous years had been identified with various, bands. He was born at Bourbon, Ind., on Nov. 1SG;, and was past 4S years of age. He came to .Mishawaka from Plymouth about 30 years ago. He was twieo married, his second wife dying about six years ago. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Mr. Gardner is survived by three sons and one daughter, Eugene, Frances, John, and Balph. at home, besides his mother. Mrs. Eva Gardner of this city, and three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Hios of South Bend, Mrs. Clement Schcibelhut and Mrs. Albln Muinch of this city. The funeral was held Saturday morning at y o'clock from ST. Joseph's Catholic church. Kev. Dean L. A. Moench otUeiated. The pallbearers were Messrs. William Hoerstman, Otto Muinch, John J. This report shows that during tho year 188,411.876 passengers were carried over the 26,1 9 S miles of track of the entire .system in more than a million trains. These trains, more than 3,u00 of them a day, traveled 67.3s9,3Sl miles during the year. The Pennsylvania railroad lines east of Pittsburgh in the last two years carried 311.CT5.7lf t passengers and not one was killed in a train accident. During the years 1908, 1910, 191." and 1914 the number of passengers carried on the lines east of Pittsburgh was equal to live times the population of the country and not one was killed In a train accident. SKATING ItINK MELTS. The skating rink which was constructed in Battell park Thrusday morning by City Street Commissioner Doolittle by order of the board of public works, lasted hut a few hours, owing to the rise in the temperature Friday. According to Mr. Doolittle it will require several nights of zro weather before a rink suitable for skating can be made practicable. It is also planned to construct rinks in Washington park in the west end providing a suitable location can be found. 1)11. BOROUGH FUNERAL. The funeral of Dr. John Borough, vho died last Thursday morning, was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence, 409 Lincoln way E. Rev. A. C. Ormond and Kev. L. C. Rogers otliciated. The honorary pallbearers were M. M. Fisher. Taber Ham. R. E. Perkins, W. B. Hosford. John Hutchinson and 'Alex McMichaels. The active pallbearers were Miles Smith, Ralph Feig. R. E. Jernegan. Dr. C. A. Dresch, Dr. J. G. Kostwick and C. J. Slick. Burial was in the city cemetery. JUDGE TELLS PRISONER HE WOULD DEPORT HIM TO WAR In the city police court Julius Verjdeyes of this city was given the fright of his life when he was told by Judge Feig, that, he, the judge, was seriously considering deporting Versleyes to Belgium. The judge told the prisoner that as many of the Belgians had been killed in battle and the country was greatly in need of men, ho would send that particular person back to his native land. The prisoner broke down and wept. He said that he had lived in America for 40 years or more and did not want to return to the land of his birth. The judge finally agreed to let him off with a fine of and costs, amounting to $15, which he paid. He was arrested for publi cintoxlcation. MRS. ALBERT REXSTREW DIES SUDDENLY AT HOME Mrs. Albert Rexstrew, a former resident of this city, died at her home, 10 miles northeast of Mishawaka. Saturday morning at 6 o'clock, after a short illness of complications. Until recently Mrs. Hexstrew has enjoyed almost perfect health. She was born Sept. 7, US0, in Fulton county, this state, and was past 2 6 years of age. She was formerly Miss Esta Zink and was united in marriage to Mr. Rexstrew July H, 1910. ' She is survived by her husband and mother, Mrs. Lousia Zink of this city, two sons, Carl and Howard, at home, three sisters, Mrs. Ed Perkins of South Rend, Mrs. W. E. Miller of M uncle. Ind., and Mrs. Ernest Lewis of Elkhart, and two brothers. Pert of Michigan, and L. F. Zink of Rurr Oak, Ind. The f'-neral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2: HO o'clock from the Finch and Sprague chapel. Rev. A. W. Smith, pastor of the Methodist church of River Park will officiate.
