The Elkhart Truth Monday evening contained tho following story, the principals of which are well known In Mlshawaka: "Mrs. Kdna V. Minegan, 134 X. Fifth St., and I-.uto Minegar. a grocery clerk

; who rooms at the same address, were

arrested Sunday morning when they were found together In a room over tho Moy Quong Chinese landry. S. Main st. The prisoners were locked up on a statutory charge, following their arrest by Night Sergeant helmandine and Officers Domer, Corner and Williams. Mrs. Minegar entered a plea of guilty In police court thU morning after spending a o.ay and night in jail, and Judge I-.ee assessed a fine and costs of $15 and imposed a sentence of 60 days in the county jail. The court agreed to suspend the jail sentence If the woman would behave herself and return to her family. L.uete Mineger, who Is a yyounger brother of the wronged husband, gave bond for his appearance In court this morning and was released. When arraigned he pleaded not guilty and gave a $50 continuance bond to appear for trial Wednesday morning. The Minegars had separated, It is declared. Their differences were patched up last week when the woman dismissed her divorce suit in superior court against her husband and agreed to return home to her three little sons.

j j. no .Minegar cnnuren nau oeen wun relatives in Mishawaka and their father had gone after them Saturday , afternoon to return them to their mother In the newly furnished home. The mother was to meet the little family at the 9 o'clock interurban car, ! but this she failed to do, and the hus

band, growing suspicious, instituted a search with the aid of the police. When arraigned in court this morning the woman was very penitent and declared she would return to her husband and little childern as soon a her release could be arranged."

Fire Chief A. J. p.uysse returned from Nrw Orleans, la.. Monday night where he had U en att nding the U'd annual convention of the international association of i.re eriKineers at which there were some s. e is:ting chiefs, Mr. Buysse left Chicago in a special train with several hundred other tire chiefs, arriving in New Orleans Monday, the 19th. on which day the delegates responded to the general alarm of Pres't Haney of Jacksonville, Fla, The second day if the convention was taken up with the tcsUns of all tho latest ideas of lire prevention, which the hief says he found most interesting. On the third day the chief oj! East Liverpool. Pa,, talked on the Letterment of lire house s and motor apparatus, and stated that if all the cities could be motorized it would be of some value to the cities. On the fourth and last day of the convention the election of oilicers was attended to, and the place of meeting for next year decided on. Cincinnati, O., wan the cite selected. In speaking of the trip Mr. Buysse says he found the American La France Fire Engine " to have the best display of apparatus, and he now sees that Mishawaka made no mistake when buying the motor equipment at the central station. The local tire chief is not by any means enraptured with the south. The weather was decidedly warm and the mosquitoes took special delight in tormenting the Mishawaka visitor. He found tho houses unkempt, and the stench from the Mississippi at times almost unbearable. The river is about 10 feet higher than the city which accounts for the unpleasantness.

Announcement h.vs been nade that

i the voting place for the second pre- . cinct of the third ward lias been chaned from 412 H. S-'pring st. to the rear of Kohleder's grocery, 223 Lincoln lr.shway west. v V L V vL 0 T i V- r THE MAN IN THE STREET 'S5 ! f 'r- rf 1 "i 'tChas. 1. M. is making a deep study of the foot and mouth disease with a view to having it kept out of town. There's public spirit for you. Ben Baer vouches for this one. His little son, Melvln, rushed home the other evening and excitedly told his parents that tho Germans had won out la tho war. 'Vat, vat's dis you tell me," screamed the proud father who didn't go to the front because he had his naturalization papers stowed away in the inmost recess of his dwelling. The boy reiterated his assertion, and Big Ben asked him where he g t his information. "Because there's no bulletins In tho newspaper windows today" was the rejoinder. Ben is telling this yarn with great gusto to his customers who do their shopping late of nights with him. We've tried Mac's soap without success. And ascertained its worthlessness; Its made of rock, it does not cleanse, iSo here Is where the story ends. George S. 7.1c B. doesn't run a junk shop but he might just as well. He has all the business accumen of the "profession." He sold an unfortunate, an old car the past week, for which he got the price of a new one of the same make, and he even had the hardihood to remove tho tools from the chest before ho turned It over to the purchaser. After all there isn't so much difference between a stubborn Scotchman and a mule. We saw it illustrated the past week. Our author-banker, Mcintosh, while on his way to business paw a fallen mule on Mill st. and, after furtively glancing along Lincoln highway, evidently for the purpose of seeing if thero was anyone around, he mn tn thp nssistanco of the farm wifo

who was vainly attempting to get the mule to its feet. "Let me at it." he exclaimed to the owner whom he graciously brushed aside. And right here the drama commenced a drama that came near being a tragedy. Mac first tried gentle nersuasion: that didn't work. He next

caught tho animal by both ears and attempted to raise it to its pins. That didn't work. He took off his coat, went round to tho rear end, caught the fail and give it such a jerk that he almost pulled it out It was here that the mule got mad. It let out with both feet simultaneously and Just missed its aim by a hair. If it had landed, there sure would havo been a dead banker in town. Mac was now good and mad. A crowd had gathered, and hi3 reputation was at stake. He is from Kentucky, brought up on the farm and has handled obstreperous things before so ho tells us. He borrowed a long hat pin from one of the audience, and selecting a tender spot in the mule's anatomy, while the mule had turned away its head in evident disgust, stuck the pin in. until it could get no further. The effect was marvelous. The mule Jumped to its feet and winked at Mac, while the audience cheered itself hoarse. The political pot will be red hot in Mishawaka this -week. O. E. L. is making the fight of his life. In fact all the local candidates are on the
