INDIANA'S ENTIRE PURE FOOD BOARD ARRIVES IN CITY (CONTINUED FROM I 'AGE ONID For example, mycotic stomatitis is frequently mistaken for foot and mouth disease. Put no farmer should undertake to settle this matter for himself. He should immedately report any suspicious case to the nearest state or federal authority and rely upon their diagnosis. To conceal a case of foot and mouth disease is really a serious crime against the entire community. Miouhl Tako Pitvauthms. "For his own precaution as well as for the general health of the community the owner of a healthy herd in an infected area should take the. greatest care to see that he himself does not introduce the disease to his animals ami that he does not permit any one else to do so. In previous outbreaks curiosity led a number of farmers to inspect the, infected animals, returning afterwards to their farms to spread the disease among their own herds. In regions where the disease exists, outsiders should not he allowed under any circumstances to visit the stables or barnyards. Dogs, cats, rats, pigeons and poultry have also been known to carry the disease and in consequence they should be kept apart from the stock. Federal inspectors, whose duty compels them to go from farni'to farm, are equipped with disinfectants which make it impossible for them to spread the disease; but others who have not this advantage may do a vast amount of harm through sheer carelessness." FORT WAYNE, Ind.. Oct. 22. In a conference here 1-Tiday night Gov. Ralston stated he hid aked for a meeting Saturday morning with leading live stock men of the state to consider the epidemic in St. Joseph and Iaporte counties. He believes the outcome of the meeting will l a reccornmendation by the governor to the legislature to meet in January for an appropriation to cover th state's proportion of a reasonable reimbursement of loss occasioned by the efforts to stamp out the disease in the state. The governor regrets that a fund is not at his disposal for the purpose. Albert J. Heveridge, Progressive candidate for F. S.
