TELLS WHAT TIMES DEMAND OF MEN Rev. .James L. dardiner Addresses Meeting of Brotherhood.
The regular meetingn of the brotherhood of St. Paul's Methodist Memorial church were resumed Monday -vening with an interesting meeting at the church. Regular business was transacted followed by an informal hour during vvhich special music wa? furnished by Miss Gladys Maur-r of the Redpath Lyceum bureau and Miss Lillian Anderson. Rev. Dr. J. L. Gardiner gave a most interesting talk, his topic being. "The Man Demanded by the Times". He emphasized particularly the need of truthfulness In man, stating that truthfulness is one of the basic principles of character, that, without it.
true manhood is impossible.
"The men demanded bv the times.
said Dr. Gardiner in the course of his talk, "are the men who have deep convictions upon great moral questions. Particularly great is the need of men who have deep convictions regarding the sanctity of the Sabbath, the holiness of the P.ible and the sacredness of the home." Dr. Gardinei remarked further that the times demand men who have convictions upon the subject of the liquor tratlie. "WV need men." said lie. "who stand uncompromisingly for the total prohibition of strong drink." These were the points most emphatically impressed by Dr. Gardiner. He quoted as an appropriate illustration of his idea of what is demanded by God and the times, of men, the following iim.: God give us men, times like these demand Strong minds, great hearts, Truth faith ai d ready hands. Men whom the lust of office does not kill. Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy. Men who possess opinions and a will. Men who have honor; men who will not lie.
