INl)IANAPOIJS. Sept. A dl.!ir:f t note of warning has heen sounded here by hadcrs in all parties anent attempts that might be made to pad registration Ii.ts. either here or elsewhere In the fctJite. Several counties In the state held registrations last Friday at the heh'-st of leaders of various parties. The note of warning that was sounded here called to mind the fact that the registration this ar is directly within the purview of fetleral law. and federal laws are not respectoyji of persons. Tlie i'nited States election laws over registrations, primary elections and other elections in which federal offices are Involved. This year the voters in Indiana will vote for a I'nited States senator and for various members of conres. Thus the registration uk the following election is directly under the guns of the federal courts. It was declared here that federal crand Juries would have thf right to Investigate ny crooked work ly any party or any clique of politicians', who miht operate in the registrations for the purpose of padding- lists or otherwise aiding their own or their party's interest. To all such the leaders of the parties here sent the warning that any irregularities would not be tolerated and that the violators of law not only would be amenable to local laws, hut to fetleral statutes as well. It Is believed that because of this warning the registration Fr!ca and that of October and the November elections will be unusually free from the taint of corruption that has been charged so openly and freely against practically all parties In some parts of the state in recent years.

Perhaps some people kicked about their Hell telephone service yesterday. Probably it was- because the thoughts of the workers were not on their work but with their fellow employes who were enjoying the hospitality of Manager K. T. INDIANAPOLIS. Sept. $. With the return of Chairman Bernard Korbly from Washington plans for the speaking campaign in Indiana were taken up at the democratic headquarters. Arrangements will b mad at once to cover the entire state with speakers able to discuss the present issues. Some of the party leaders who are attending organization meetings declare that fewer sjeeches than ever will be needed this year. They say that a majority of the people are very well satislied with the Wilson administration and that they don't care much about speech making as their minds are made tip to vote the democratic ticket. The reports indicate that the war ha diverted the minds of many people from politics and that they are going to be hard to interest in meetings of any kind. War has taken the attention of many people from the policies of the national administration so that some of the wisest men in politics almost have reached the conclusion that a majority of the voters will support the democratic ticket because they will feel hat it will be unwise to change administration while a national crisis exist?. Under the circumstances they say that many people feel that there will be no fair test of the Wilson policies this year and the democrats ought to be continued in power until 1916 until there can be n test. Mrvy agree that Vice Pres. Marshall hit the marker this week when he said that there won't be rnjch politics in the coming election but that in 1918 it will be different. However, the democratic state committee is going to give the people a chance to hear the Wilson policies discussed by some of the ablest speakers in the party. The president himself will come to Indiana if he makes any speeches. William J. Bryan. Josephus Daniels, secretary of the navy; William B. Wilson, secretary of the labor department, and other noted speakers are coming to Indiana during the latter part of this month and in October so that there will be no dearth of speakers. The vice president proposes to deliver at least four speeches. Sen. Shlvely will speak in several dstricts. Sen. Kern will make a number of speeches. It does not seem likely that the democrats will suffer because of a lack of talent to tell the people the party's position on state and national issues. Chairman Ilendren of the speaker's bureau has been working out a tentative plan for meetings in every county. He has been calling on local speakers and many have volunteered their services. Meetings will be held in practically every county in the state next week and during the week following. The governor will deliver the keynote speech here Sept. 17 w hen he will discuss state issues. There is a great demand for speeches b,v the governor and he will appear in every district as he is anxious to talk to the people about the present democratic administration in view of the criticism that is being heaped on it by the republican organization. The democratic committee was prepared to get along without any outside speaker as arrangements were being made for the governor to speak in many counties. However, the offer of many prominent men to come to Indiana will enable the committee to go ahead and plan the speech making campaign on a broader line.
