That the P.ritish licet is in control of the Pacific ocean and that little fear is felt for German war vessels, was indicated here Monday when announcement was made that a numV r of English and French mrchant-7!-n would sail for England, and with cargoes of barley and other grains. The British "rechter Carpathian cleared Monday and the French bark Edmond Rostand will sail Tuesday. The Ininelutha and I,ord Templeton Iiave also left and the Harrison Elner Candidate will clear Wednesday. The Candidate will bo thu first British vessel to sail for the Fnited Kingcom with ' general cargo since war v;as declared.

They will have their own governing hody and will make their own rules, although in a small way under the authority of the supreme otlicers of the Owl order. A new ritual will be adopted by the new organization and a committee composed of Mrs. Anna Reinleiri, of Aurora. 111.: Mrs. Mary Hazeley. of liockford. UK, and Mrs. Ilhoda Allen of Peoria, J II., has been appointed to draft it. A resolution condemning all forms of gambling in an effort to raise funds for lode affairs was also parsed. Three supreme trustees to serve for one ear were elected. They are: Mrs. Pauline Fige of Auora. 111.. Mrs. Mary Warner, Niagara Falls. X. V., and lUrs. Mary A. Doyle of Cedar Rapids, la.

PATHS, Sept. 1. Eight hundred Americans sailed for the United States from Havre Sunday on the French liner Uoehambcau. Most of these refugees came from Switzerland. Many of them had to occupy the steerage of the Uoehambcau, but no complaints were heard. Though they had come over in cabins de luxe they were glad to go back "in any old way', is K. P. Beach expressed It. Mr. Beach paid a tribute to fche representatives of the United States in Europe saying that Ambassador Herrick and the consul general at Zurich Wilber had done everything po,ssilde for their countrymen.
