DECLARES SIN IS NOT RESULT OF ENVIRONMENT

Rev. James Ii. Canliner Discusses What It Mean to be Saved at Midweek Prayer Son ice.

"What Does It Mean to Be Saved?" Was tho question discussed by Kev. James I. Gardiner, pastor of the St. Paul'8 Methodist church at the weekly prayer meeting Wednesday night. In developing his theme. Rev. Gardiner said that being saved implies three things. The first o-ie of these things is the acknowledgment f sm One cannot be saved without acknowledging his fault, said the speaker, for David said, "I have sinned against Thee. O, God." and he was forgiven, but not until he had made that acknowledgment of his fault. Sin is a. transgression of God's law, declared Rev. Gardiner, and is not the result of environment, but had its source in the heart. Salvation also implies a repentance for sin. We must bo sorry for our sins and turn from them toward God, said Dr. Gardiner. Faith is also necessary to salvation, for St. Paul said in answer to tho question "What must 1 Do to Re Saved?" "Believe in the Rord. Jesus Christ." Following the talk by Dr. Gardiner several members of the church also discussed the question. An ice cream social under the auspices of the Dorcas society will be held tonight at the homo of Rev. and Mrs. James L. Gardiner, Sol W. Colfax av.
