UY nilOADAX WALT. NEW YORK. June 30. Fluctuations were unimportant in Monday's Ftock market and total transactions broke the low records of the year. Wall street has settled down for an Idle week. The public has assumed a waiting attitude and the professional trader fears to anticipate the next movement. Brokers have become callous to dally losses and confess Inability to advise or suggest. A specialist in "odd lots" dealing in some 36 issues, traded in only six Monday and this is typical of the Idleness of the small operator. On the financial horizon there looms the probability of a rate decision at the end of the week while from the west reports of marvelous crops prove the soundness of our agricultural wealth. Bankers are singularly free to give both time and attention to a readjustment of mercantile finances. Broad co-operation between debtor and creditor In the dry goods trade

should smooth a rough condition with a minimum of loss. Happily helpfulness and hopefulness prevail. Foreign markets were unaffected by the Austrian-Hungarian tragedy. Government securities abroad were steady and international bankers expressed assurance that security markets were sound. London houses sold -.000 to 4.00 shares here, but the trading was unimportant. Foreign exchange was weak and cable transfers broke sharply, indicating the termination of gold exports. The passing of the preferred dividend of the Fairbanks Scales company momentarily attracted attention to the stagnation in general business. Dullness in the copper metal market continues and there was a further shading in prices. No improvement was noted in the iron trade, although a favorable sentiment prevails. I'nitfd Dry Goods recovered more than three points. Steel common was fractionally lower. Bethlehem Steel lost a point. Amalgamated Copper showed heaviness and sold down to 07 1-2. Southern Pacific was firm

while Reading was sold for foreign account, dropping to 161 1-2. General .Motors was weak, losing two points. Bonds were steady. Investment circles were encouraged by the announcement that the $20,000,000 one-year New Haven notes had all been sold and all but a small amount of the NewEngland Navigation notes and the Harlem and Port Chester notes had been disposed of. CONTROLS ALL LINES IN CENTRAL AMERICA United Fruit Co. Said to Be Trying to Get Possession in Nicaragua. WASHINGTON, July 3 0. It developed Monday in the hearing on the Nicaragua treaty before tho senate committee on foreign relations that tho United Fruit company, a corporation which owns or controls every banana plantation in Central America, now holds the controlling interest in the railroads of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Salvador and is making every effort to take over from the New York bankers now holding tho controlling interest of the National railway of Nicaragua, their interest in that line of transportation. This corporation, it is understood in addition to controlling these transportation lines controls all the docks at the various ports in Central America and any independent steamship lines must pay tribute to it before they can enter one of these ports. This control not only of interior means of communication, but of seaports, hwis given the United Fruit company an absolute monopoly of all tropical fruir.3.
